-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Well I'm listening to the Chelsea web site - it would take me 2 hours to upgrade my media player - Why did they have to change from Real Player/??

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

BTW no PPV here either. With luck someone will be joining us with vision &/or sound. What`s the time with you lot right now?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

No ppv, no webcast :-(

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Ooo....just got Chewsee's webcast. Hopefully ours starts up soon, cause from what I remember Chewsee's announcer is a bit obnoxious. But it's better than nothing :-)

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Why is ko delayed? So they can figger out how to start the webcast? ;-))

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

crowd congestion

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Never mind no midfielders on the bench - no right-winger on the pitch.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Lee will play right mid

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Kick off is supposed to be in 1 min. @ 9pm. Singapore time.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

No doubt they were talking about the last time we won in London

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Hearing Chelsea's lineup does nothing to dispel my fears that we're going to be thrashed, however I just so excited to start the new season it almost doesn't matter. :-)

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Ta Ciara - all made up of course!! Yeh I didn`t realise time zones were same either.

Any updates yet folks?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Bud, do we look as clueless as it sounds?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Well YBR must change his tactics, nee point in hanging on to what we have. Aye, with that line up he came for a 0-0 draw.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Be nice if Robert can get a goal for us

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

bollix. anyone see a goal coming out of our line up? thought not

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Almost one from Robert free kick.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Dr Goey just made the same mistake, he gets away with it! :-(

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Ooo...almost. Is that a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Looks like Laurent's our best hope. I imagine he's going to be the one man in our one-man team while Dyer's out. We really need both in. Oh yeah, and a striker or two. And central midfielder.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Phew - what happened there Bud?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

no Ciara that`s just the light from the distant signpost saying "end of tunnel 1500 miles"

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Aaaa...feck it, let's just try not to get any new injuries and concentrate on Tues. And next Sunday. Plenty of other London matches this season to break our bad run.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

LOL, Loony

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

did I mention that I had a really bad feeling about this game?? where the hell`s Dougal when you need someone more depressed than yerself?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

And fer cryin out loud, don't let Zenden score again!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Arse. Lost connection.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Given, miracle save off the line!

PHEW!

Robert's looking dangerous.

Bellamy almost scored!!!

Great tackle from Barton!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Me too - got it back. I've accidentally hidden the bar at the bottom of the screen (ie minimized windows) - how do you get it back?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Midfield non-existent, at least the Toon Army can be heard!!

Rob Lee booked! SH!T!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

These computers are amazing inventions. ;-)

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

See yiz later chaps.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

I have a feeling Dan may be gone for some time ...

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Aaron Hughes booked now, getting skinned by Zenden!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

I have the feeling that we are sh!te, again.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

But then again, it may be the Chewsee commentators not giving a true rendition of the play ;-))))

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

looks like we can count out being in the fair play league next year!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Let's just hope we are still in the Premier League next year

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Final score 5-0, any bets???. Should be four already.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

LOL sparxx. I now have an extra window containing BBC text updates so I too can follow all the gruesome detail. I am a kompewter genius

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Sorry folks, Barton's back to normal, back passing

The ref's a cunt just booked Robert, for being fouled!!!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

It's not looking to good Pete. Bellamy looks sharp but the old boys at the back look very shaky. Robert booked now!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

D'Urso has given us more cards in the past three seasons than any other referee.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

3 booked after only 30 mins. Urso is indeed a bastard amongst bastards. how many of our lads does he want to walk?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

how long before Bobby tosses in the towel?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

I can't figure why Bobby feels he must always play the old boys.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

or would that be the trowel for wor Robby.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

I don`t think it`s so much an old vs new thing Pete - YBR`s just desperately trying to find players who can blend into some semblance of a team. desperate being the word for the poor awld bugga

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Why be depressed?

We're playing in London

D'@rsehole is the ref.

Chelsea's line up is far stronger than ours

Other than a badly timed Taibi impression, we'd still be 0-0, so we really aren't doing that badly.

Conclusion: We'll only lose 3-0, so won't be at the bottom of the table. ;-)

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Dougal's at the game isn't she? She must be having kittens.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

the BBC are sh&te. who knows the url of a site where Newcastle are doing better??

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Free kick. Here we go!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

what? Dougal`s been sired by a Consett tomcat?? careful - this is how runmours start you know ;O)) anyone found a toon goal yet? pretty please

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Zenden taking the piss out of Barton!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

sounds like it....

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Everybody takes the piss out of Barton.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

why do I torture myself like this?????

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Replace Barton with Griff, bring O'Brien on and move Hughes into the middle replacing Lee.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

shoulda went t' the pub...

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Nice thought Statcat, YBR won't make any changes till 75 minutes, then he'll pull Shola and Bellend for 2 defenders so we can hang on to the 1-0 loss.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

At least their centre forwards are being kept quite quiet....

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

fair nuff Statcat - though I`d go for Griffin in place of Rob Lee on the right & LuaLua for Bassedas (has he touched the ball?) 15 into the 2nd

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Sorry, I just get depressed when we start out looking for a point EVERY game.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Glad I didn't try to avoid the result for 4 hours and drive all the way to DC. Sometimes being broke has it's advantages. ;-))

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

H-T, 1-0

Zenden has skinned Barton alive, Chelsea aren't that good BUT we have no midfield and ZERO attack, apart from Robert - now he's been unfairly booked he must curb his enthusiasm.

Maybe we'll get lucky?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

or - more likely - YBR will do his triple whammy on 75. cringe

PS. humble pie on standby...

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

H/t Apart from a Givern impersonation of a red nosed clown we didn.t come out of that to bad.

Good - Robert, Bellamy

Bad - The rest

Must admit with Dyer Cort and Solano in we could have worried this lot but I still feel there playing half pace!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

I'm off t'the pub.... at least there I can surround myself with Manure fans and really get that "I feel like shite" feeling.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

anyone fancy attempting a HT summary for those of us in the dark - Bud, Kegsy et al?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

cheers Hiro - what about Bassedas & Acuna & Shola?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Anyone know who is on the bench??

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Good Night from Queensland!

I have the TV coverage of the game, just looking for some good news to give you all, Robert look sclass but I doubt anyone will get on the end of his crosses as our attack is a JOKE, oh and er Bellamy looks fast, poor touch but fast, Ameobi looks like a schoolboy amongst men. HELP!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Bass and Acuna working hard. Shola no where to be seen. Me I'm off to the fridge!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Hello - Powburn Person Viewer here. We could have been 3 down, but we were unlucky to go behind. A terrible mistake by Wor Shay. Rest of the team not looking too bad, bad we have to cripple take more care of Zenden. Robbie Elliot is continuing his pre-season mediocrity. Barton and Dabs playing pretty well. I'd be tempted to bring O'Brien on for Elliot and move Hughsie to the left.

Robert and Bellamy are looking threatening - Shola is anonymous and should be replaced by Lua x2.

Still, we can get something from this game. It's up to you YBR.

Oh - BTW, D'@rsehole is useless. Typical bliddy homo homer.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Screach - why shore up left with Aaron? I thought Zenden was weaving his magic down their left/ our right??

Nige - how`s it going marra? long time

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Take Robbie Elliot off, he is slow and let Grokjaer to have so much space to run. Take Lee off and let Griffin to move as a right wing back and kick that Zenden for the rest of the match. We should move to a 3-5-2 formation with the wing back marking their R&L wings. Bellamy is not bad, at least he runs all the pitch for a chance, I hope at least one may work.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Pete in Canada,

Bench: Lua-Lua, O'Brien, Griffin, Quinn, Harper

My suggestion Luax2 for Shola

HTL!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Here we go!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Loony - 'cos Elliot's having a 'mare. They scored from that side and he's giving far too much away. Barton is having to cover the defence, leavinf BZ too much room. But he's playing a lot better than RE.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Thanks Nige. I agree, Lua x 2 for Shola, and Griffin for Elliott

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

LT, Given survived (admirably) after that disastrous start, you'd think his kicking would have improved after all thos eback passes from Barton. Hughes and Elliott are hanging in there put the Chewsea wingers are very dangerous. Our midfield is non-existent (Bassedas and Lee crap), Ameobi schoolboy stuff. We only have Robert and Bellamy (to a lesser extent).

Again, maybe just maybe we'll get lucky BUT who could / can score for us?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Loony,

How are you? Indeed a long time (too long), I've been reading of your exploits though. Maybe catch you after the game I'm back off to the TV now.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

maybe even both Quinn & Griff(for Lee) on to better protect both flanks, with Robert moving to a more central advanced role in place of Shola. give chelsea something to worry about defensively & it automatically takes the pressure off our defence & allows wingbacks to be more wing than back!! of course, akll that assumes the players are vaguely familiar with those roles from the training ground. doh!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Watch the 1st half. The team is holding its own albeit against a very average Chewsee side apart from Zenden. Shay celebrated Christmas early letting the ball through his legs. Dabs and Barton has been solid so far. Elliot, I believe is still playing Div1 football. Lee, Acuna and Bassedas has been here and there but nothing much from them. Ameobi is smiling alot but I don't know why and Bellamy is like the neighbour's little terrier running down every ball and causing a bit of a problem. Robert is ok but hasn't really got the chance to shine. Overall, we should still be 0-0 or even 1-0 up on this lot but we aren't doing too bad. Only worry is 3 yellows that Andy D'Arse saw fit to show to Robert, Lee and Bassedas.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Robert brilliant, Rob Lee almost scored!!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

cheers for updates lads n lasses. I feel much better than when I was `listening` to the 1st half. sounds as if chewsee are still doable - albeit they might be ruing a few chances they should`ve stuck in the net?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Fantastic run from Robert. Can't wait to see him and Dyer together.

If Lee and Barton were pit ponys we'd have the RSPCA on or backs!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Just back...what's the news?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Chewsee announcers saying we were close to an equalizer before Chewsee took it down the other end and went close. A draw is not beyond us, Howay lads!!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Still 1-0 them and we are still sh!te, not as sh!te as before though Dan, No changes yet.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Guess nobody thought to tell Robert that anyone wearing a black and white shirt while playing football will never get sympathy from the ref, and indeed is likely to be booked for such a heinous offence.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Free kick in a good pos!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Petit and Lampard both had chances but Shay dealt with it all quite well. In the first half I thought we would get tonked 5-0, but now I'll be a bit upset if we don't pull off a draw.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Sorry dropped my keyboard!

What I was going to say is that only Robert would be a guaranteed member of the starting XI - the future looks brighter than it did.

Wahey, my dream beat yours Dan. (See earlier thread.)

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

We defended well in the second half, for once. Robert, what a find!

I said (at H-T), we might just get lucky & WE DESERVED IT!

I'm a happy chappy, maybe we can win in 'the smoke' this season!?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

suppose I'll have to sit up and watch the scum v Fulham. Giving the mancs a bit of a game so far!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Great battling performance in teh 2nd 1/2. I'd take that result for evey game in Lahndaan this season. We can wait til next time for a win ;-))

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Thanx for the excellent company folks. Fantastic result & by the sounds of it a creditable battling performance. Robert sounds class (and lasts longer than Zenden!) while Bellamy sounds as if he worked his socks off. Dabs, Barton & Hughes solid at back.

Now about Mary Queen of SAcots sparxx???

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

I still have the suspicion TV/paper pundits don't quite get Newcastle. We often give a respectable account of ourselves when we're the underdogs. It's games at home to the likes of Derby and Everton that keep us down in the mid-table.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

PS. Thank you Claudio. If you hadn't taken BZ off, we would have lost ;-))

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Does anybody care, MANURE 0 - FULHAM 1 !!!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Great to hear from eyewitnesses. If we can maintain a battling spirit, we'll do ok this season. Might even win something. ;-)

Just put on the Fulham webcast. Excellent quality, but one of their announcers has laryngitis. His croaking is painful to hear. Go Fulham!

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

talk to you all soon folks. great result

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Just watched it on PPV - Robert is fantastic- we didnt get it to him enough- look forward to Solano, Dyer, Shearer+Robert playing together :-)

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

I'm a jinx!! First half I was in a pub in Headingly, some awful game played by public school boys going on next door and our lads are doing OK but down to a mistake by Given means we look like losing this one. Robert looked class, Barton looked eager, Bassedas didn't shirk after some roughing up, Acuna doing OK and Bellemy gives us much needed pace. Negetives were Bobby Lee & Acuna together gave little attacking options & Petit had the run in the middle. Robert looked like he may get a second yellow & backfour as ever suseptable to the through ball. Ameobi needs to keep up and anticipate. Passing was dreadful by most in B&W.

Anyways, I move pups at half time just as the cricket must have been called off, I can't get to see the second half as all the pubs are full. Get home to find not only have we equalised, we held our own & Manure are getting beat.

One funny point, a heap load of Aussies looking completely bemused as the Geordie element demand coverage of the nations national summer sport involving Egland & the best cricket team in the world be turned over to the Footie.

I saw it on ppv too. A real battling performance. Nice that Zenden had to present Warren Barton with man of the match (deservedly). Barton joked it was the nearest he'd been to him all game. Bobby singled out Rob Lee for praise. Said he was saving Solano and Speed for Troyes and that Ameobi wasn't really fit - hadn't trained all week but should be fine for Tuesday. I thought Robert looked fantastic and Bellamy had a really good game. Also Elliot put in a couple of superb tackles, though he did get dragged out of position a bit. Can't say anyone had a bad game. Fantastic result. I wonder if ppv repeat the matches so I can video it for anyone who wants it?

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

Good graft from Newcastle it has to be said. BTW these match threads are fantastic to read, even after the event.Very entertaining.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

I saw it on PPV in the bar too. It looks like we've got the better of the two, comparing Zenden and Robert. If it had been his shot and not zenden's it wouldn't have just trickled through Given's hands it would have knocked De Goey into the net (like he nearly did a couple of minutes later). Plus he's tough, players bounce off him, and he really looks as if he cares. And how he managed to get a yellow card for answering back when he can't even speak the language shows he must be a fast learner. I did worry though when he hung around just a few yards from the free kick whether he knew the 10 yard advance rule, as it doesn't apply in France as far as I know. When everyone's back from injury i think we're going to see some good games.

-- Anonymous, August 19, 2001

barry, I think Robert got booked for kicking the ball away after a free kick was given against him. It's the dodgy Sky commentators that haven't got a clue.

It was quite funny listening to Marwood the Mackem straining when he had to give us praise.

Great result, definitely something to build on for the rest of the season. Nice not to get beaten on the opening day for once.
