yet another mame32 question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I told you I would be back.....My new problem is when I try to run some games such as Dungeons and Dragons Tower of Doom, the screen just goes black and is unresponsive. I downloaded it from a differenct source just to double check and ran an audit and it says the game is working. I have downloaded other games that do work so its in the right place and all that good stuff.

By the way, Im using the newest version of mame32

I hope you all dont get tired of hearing my rookie problems, but everyone has been helpful so far.

For how long is the screen unresponsive? D&D is a quite a large romfile if I remember correctly (10meg+ I think) it may take some time to start it up.. (Just a guess)

Maybe its a version of D&D that is still not working? Barry R should be the guy to talk with about those kind of things (Protections)

Otherwise I have no idea what´s wrong.

Usually, that is caused by mismatched XORs (files used to 'decrypt' the program ROMs. If you still have that commandline version of MAME, then open a DOS box, go to the folder containing mame.exe, and type 'mame ddtod -verifyroms' (without the quotes, of course). If any come up with a Wrong CRC error, then you may have the ROMs for a different revision or region. Note that the Asian version 'ddtoda' has not yet been decrypted. I have tried the US version (ddtod) which works perfectly for me.

It may help if you tell us your system specs too, as that my help.

Im not exactly sure what you meant by the command version of MAME, but if its the one thats for windows but not MAME32 then I deleted it. The version of TOD that I have downloaded is the US version, when I check the properties it says its working and the ROM check passes when I run an audit.

I was also thinking along the lines as you when you asked about my computer, its probably too old and slow for the good games. Pentium200 with 96megs of ram.

Ah, it could very well be a CPU speed issue then. Something in the range of 400-500MHz is better suited for CPS-2 games. You could try disabling sound though, as that can give a nice speed boost.
