-- Anonymous, August 17, 2001

we should play it through the press, get him more unsettled, get him to demand a transfer and then just sneak in

EEh lass, Ciarra nose you know

"I wonder how much houlier thinks he's worth? " leave the matter to stew for a few weeks, get to the stage where Fowler will never play for Liverpool again, then go fo rthe kill.

-- Anonymous, August 18, 2001

Well he's not even on the bench today, let the speculation continue...

Whatever he is actually worth, Liverpool aren't going to accept any less than £10m - £15m for him. Remember that he isn't some foreign mercenary who would walk in a flash, he's Robbie Fowler, Liverpool born and bred - it will probably hurt him to leave the Scousers behind, so he is hardly likely to be cheap.

Do we have £10m going spare? And would he want to join us when Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and countless foreign clubs would doubtless be intesested in him?

Sorry to be so pessimistic, but I just can't see him joining us. I hope he does though, as he'd be class in black and white.

I think he's an Evertonian so it wouldn't be that hard for him to leave

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson on Sunday played down claims that he is heading the chase for unsettled Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler. With skipper Alan Shearer, Kieron Dyer and £7million signing Carl Cort currently injured, United have major problems, but the 68-year-old is confident that, as soon as his big guns are back alongside Laurent Robert, Craig Bellamy, Shola Amoebi and Lomana Lua Lua, he already has enough options up front. Asked directly on Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek's show this morning if he would be interested, Robson replied: "No I wouldn't because in Shearer, Cort, Bellamy, Shola and Lua Lua we have five strikers, and I'm happy in that department. "That wouldn't be my priority and I'm not really happy to carry on a conversation about some other club's player. ...old school-educated Robson, who has nevertheless spent the summer fuming over persistent reports that Dyer is threatening to leave St James' Park, is confident that order will be restored. "I'd like to have seen the day when a Liverpool player tried to sue Bill Shankly or Bob Paisley," he said. "The game has just changed, it's gone out of recognition and slightly out of control in a way. "But it will all settle down. Good managers will always be good managers and good managers always control players. "Good players will always have a good attitude about their club and their managers. One or two will always try it on, but they will be put in their place. "The club will dictate the policy and that's the best thing that can happen. "Players are there to play football; players are not there to run football clubs."

Wise old man, with a wise young spin doctor!?

Kegsy are you sure Fowler is an Evertonian? It just seems a bit strange him coming out and saying he's always loved the club (Liverpool) and doesn't want to leave. If I was forced to play for Sunderland I wouldn't be able to bring myself to say I love the club.
