Trivia Question - who was YBR's first ever signing?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
Dougal, as a reader of "United Front" is not allowed to answer. :-)Well it was, at the princely sum of £1000 from Tonbridge to Fulham, none other than our very own Supermac. He was bought as a left back (shudder), Fulham converted him into a striker and the rest is history. (No-one will admit to having converted him into a journalist.)
Other YBR snippets. He started his career in football with Fulham as a player in May 1950, in the exact same month that Jonno's mam, 1 month overdue with child, was struggling onto a bus to go from Seghill to Princess Mary's Maternity ....The rest is pre-history.

Jonno - I'd just finished my national service in April 1950 so I was available to help your mother on to the bus, but no one contacted me. Life's little historical misses! Cheers :-)) -phoenix
