Do we have enough strikers?

I say we have 3 strikers. Shearer, Cort and Amiobi. I class Bellendamy as an attacking midfielder and Lua*2 is a... well I don't know what the hell he is. So as far as target men, we have only 3. Now 2 of the three are injury prone. The other is young and needs to learn the killer instinct. So where does that leave us? How long before we push Robert up front?

We made a bid for Jeffers. Therefore Bobby sees the need for another striker.

Bierhoff is available on a free - we should check out his wage demands, I believe that he would be a great addition to the squad if the wage demands arent too much.

In answer to your question though - NO we dont have enough strikers.

Not a bad suggestion. Buying and old bloke wouldn't worry the younger strikers at the club.

An excellent idea. As pointed out by Nick Raphael such a signing ought not to upset the younger strikers too much (indeed they ought to be keen to learn from such a player). Players like Suker and Boksic have done a very good job in the Premier in the twilight of their careers.

This kind of transfer, free and getting a very experienced player, is very low risk and can plug a gap at times of injury etc. Gallagher did a great job for us. Of course, it doesn't do to Rush into things.

Alan Shearer is due back anytime soon, so we don't have to worry about any of this. Do we??

van Nistelroy/Cole/Scholes/Yorke/Solskjaer? Heskey/Fowler/Owen/Limanen? Wiltord/Henry/Bergkamp/Kanu? With the possible exception of Bergkamp, I wouldn't say any of those are "old blokes". That's the difference. ManUre got rid of their old man back to Spurs. Shearer is (almost) at that stage - not that I'm suggesting we should sell him. I've said it many times before, we need 4 top quality strikers. Thus far, I think we have, well....until injuries clear up, none. Lua x2 may come good. Bellamy - hmmm. Ameobi needs a killer instinct but has bags of potential.

Shearer has suffered career threatening injuries and been a long term absentee twice. ONE player can never be relied upon. There should always be cover/options

Not entirely free...

Oliver Bierhoff has confirmed that Bolton Wanderers have joined a three-way fight for his £1.7million signature. Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has made contact with Bierhoff's lawyer Luca Ferrarri and has been told the 33-year-old AC Milan striker wants to play in the Premiership.

Southampton and Marseille are also in the hunt, but Bierhoff said: 'Bolton are now serious contenders. They have made an offer and the idea of playing in England appeals to me strongly. I intend talking to all three clubs before making my mind up.'

Bierhoff is slow, injury-prone and has largely lost the athleticism that used to make him score so many headed goals. He is one of the worst divers in a league which embraces it as an art-form. We let AC Milan get away with Andreas Andersson, don't let's compound the problem by giving them more money for old rope.

I'll bow to Softie's greater knowledge of European matters and say let's not bother then.

In principle however, I like the idea of signing older players with masses of experience, now and again. Low risk, short contracts. Suker and Boksic have done well. Gallagher did a great job for us. If our luck with injuries continues, this is one way of plugging gaps.

Actually I'm available myself - ah well - stick with Robert then - see if I care.
