BBoard User's FAQ

This is an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for users of LUSENET forums. If your question isn't answered in this FAQ (or if the answer isn't clear) then feel free to send mail to webmaster@greenspun.com.

Frequently asked questions:

  1. I'd like to put hot links into questions or answers to questions, but when I try they seem to reference some non-existant page on greenspun.com. Is there any way to do this?
  2. I find one of the questions or answers in a LUSENET forum to be offensive. Can it be removed?
  3. I put up up a question (or answered a question) that I wish I hadn't. Can it be removed?

  1. Q: I'd like to put hot links into questions or answers to questions, but when I try they seem to reference some non-existant page on greenspun.com. Is there any way to do this?

A: It's actually pretty straightforward: just make sure to include the entire URL in the <href> tag, including the "http://". For example, if I wanted to put in a link to LUSENET, I might type into my message:

    here's a link to <a href="http://www.greenspun.com/bboard">LUSENET</a>

That's all there is to it. Note that hrefs like this look a little funny in the email notifications that are frequently generated by other members interested in a posting, so you probably want to use them sparingly to maintain readability.

  2. Q: I find one of the questions or answers in a LUSENET forum to be offensive. Can it be removed?

A: As a general rule, the webmaster will only censor content that is obscene, incites violent acts, or is obviously illegal. If you spot content like this, please notify us and we'll deal with it as quickly as possible.

Having said that, we are otherwise quite reluctant to censor content on LUSENET. For a variety of reasons, we almost never remove content from LUSENET forums that do not meet the above guidelines. (In fact, if you find yourself strongly disagreeing with the opinion of another user, then you might want to consider yourself intellectually stimulated rather than offended!)

If you continue to believe that a question, answer, or thread is inappropriate, your best bet is to contact the administrator of the forum, who also has the power to remove unwanted posts. You can find the name and email address of the administrator on the main page for the forum, at the bottom.

  3. Q: I put up up a question (or answered a question) that I wish I hadn't. Can it be removed?

A: Possibly, but again this is at the discretion of the forum administrator. See the question above for more details on our removal guidelines, as well as how to contact the forum administrator.

webmaster@greenspun.com Could Phil be involved in some leagal action that involves the censorship/editting issues of the past two years?
