I just shot and tested some 8x10 and it is very nice! Developed in pyrocatechin it has a very long tonal range, I was amazed at the depth of the blacks! Unfortunatelly I needed more developing time and my prints has very low contrast, but overall it seems to be a very nice film that is tempting me to move away from Tmax 100......I need to do more testing but what I saw I liked. BTW I shot it at 40 EI.

Fuji Acros does have very fine grain. However, it competes more with TMX that with TP. The grain size and pattern is very similar to TMX. In fact, I would go so far as to say they are effectively equal in terms of grain and sharpness. Tonally, I'd give the nod to TMX in midrange values. Acros has better separation on the shoulder and perhaps slightly more separation on the toe. The fact is, though, these films are *very* closely matched, which is to say, they look a lot more alike than different.

I couldn't agree more with Ted's assessment. TMX and Acros 100 (120), in Xtol (stock) look identical on the light table, though TMX is slightly faster.

Moderator;

What happened to all the other responses? There was some good info in them. I deleted all of the responses in my mail box because I assumed (ass of you and me, at least me) that I could print out this thread when It was done!!!!

Anyway based on the three responses and the dozen or so others that got deleted, I'm going to pass on Acros.

I found the single roll of Acros I've tried so far to offer nice (but not exceptionally tight) grain, a very wide tonal palette and quite lovely mid tone separation. I've compiled a few similar shots using various types of b/w film detailing the developers used in the follwing site Black and White Film Comparison The Acros is somewhere towards the end of the thumbnail images.
