Focusing Sensor

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have been using with success my Eos Rebel for 10 years. On our trip this July I got back 5 rolls of very fuzzy pictures and the place where I purchased the camera says the focusing sensor is wearing out. Is this possible and are there more parts that are apt to start wearing out after 10 years. I am wondering about whether it is more feasible for me to keep this camera and have it fixed or to put the money on a new one if there is more to go wrong after this amount of time.

No, it's not possible. It could go out of adjustment or it could fail, but it can't "wear out" from use. After 10 years (or 10 minutes) anything can break of course, electronic or mechanical failures are always possible.

Linda,

Your shop should be able to give you a decent estimate on cost of repair. Carefully consider whether it's worth nursing along, or if it's time to look for a new (or used) EOS body. I think a Rebel 2000 body goes for about $250 US these days.
