(17:42) Suicide bombing in Kiryat Motzkin restaurant

By The Jerusalem Post Internet Edition Staff

Dozens of people were wounded in an apparent suicide bombing in a suburban Haifa restaurant about 5:25 p.m.

Magen David Adom emergency medical personnel are reporting 20 wounded at this time.

The large blast took place in the Wall Street Cafe in Kiryat Motzkin, located at 71 Ben-Gurion Street.

Most of the victims suffered from light to moderate wounds.

Victims requiring more extensive medical attention are being evacauated to Haifa's Rambam hospitals and to a Nahariya hospital.

Security forces and MDA emergency medical teams are on the scene and treating the wounded.

Police have sealed the area to traffic and are asking the public to stay away.

The body of one man wearing an explosive belt - presumably a suicide bomber - was reportedly found in the cafe.

Northern district police commander Ya'akov Borovsky said sappers are searching the restaurant and surrounding area for additional explosive devices.

The cafe is located in a busy commerical district in northern Haifa suburb. The restaurant is reportedly frequented by families.

Security forces have been maintaining a very high state of alert in the Haifa region over the past several days.
