Starting a Ministry to the divorced

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

My wife (Gail) and myself are seeking to administer help to the many divorced who are hurting, lonely and seem without anywhere to turn in our area, St Lucie County, Florida. We have a church to support this endeaver but what we need is advice,(any kind, but be kind). My wife and I both have B.S. degrees from Fla. Christian College in mission and Christian Ed. Thankk you for your time. Bruce

I should have proof read before sending: had one too many o's in my last name. Gail has some counseling classes under Prof. Lyle Bundy at FCC. This am we had two new single moms come into our class. let's pray the Lord is behind this endeaver. (I know He is.) In Him Bruce

HBJ -- there is a "canned" program out there called "Divorce Care." I'm not sure who puts it together, but I am fairly certain it could be ordered through most bookstores.

While I have never used the material, EVERYONE I know who has used it loves the stuff.

I'm not sure of any theological stuff in the material, but I'm sure it could easily be "baptised" for use in our congregations ... a number of C/C C of C use the material.

If you check it out, let me know what you think!

HBJ -- also -- I oversaw a singles/single again program in Boca Raton FL prior to attending FCC back in the early 80's. If you are interested in the basic format of that program, email me and I'll give you the outline of how we programed, oversaw child care, etc.

We actually got the author of the basic material for DivorceCare to start our first group last spring (the ministry hq is near here). I wasn't involved, but our leadership must have found the material and its author acceptable.
