Rob Lee's Day

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Saturday is Rob Lee's day. I'm going to leave aside any disquiet about where the match proceeds go and support wor Rob on his tribute day. Nine years with a club is rare in this day and age and Rob has done his best for Newcastle during the most exciting era I think any of us has seen. Keegan saw fit to flash £0.7m for Rob 9 years ago, and it would be hard to find a more astute purchase as Rob was soon an England player and worth in excess of £4m at his best.

So I'm going to say thanks to The General on his big day. He is no longer guaranteed a first team place and we may not see much more of him in the B&W that he has graced so well. Have a great day Rob, remembered I hope more for the occasion than the cash, thanks for some great games, and some great goals. We'll never forget the headed hatrick in the 5-0 in Begium or our first FA cup goal at Wembley in 44 years. I'm sorry you never picked up any winners medals for us, but then again, we Geordies are getting well used to not winning trophies and are starting to wear that fact as a badge of honour. :-)

Have a great day Rob - and I hope there is always a big place in your heart now for this region and these people. A big hand please for The General, our very own, Robert Lee.

I'll drink to that!! Thanks Bobby for all the good memories. If half our squad give half as good as you have given, we'll be a happy lot. I'll be there the morra competing with Warren in the clapping stakes. Have a good 'un!

Well put together words Jonno. I'm truly sorry I can't be there to pay my own little tribute to a really class act; a player who has worn the shirt with pride and distinction, and one who will be remembered as one the very best.

Thank you for 9 yrs of dedication to the cause Rob: best wishes for the future.

An excellent pro - on the field - off the field , a dying breed.

Hear, hear! He was my second favorite after Shearer when I first discovered NUFC, which unfortunately was after his peak years. Still liked his hard work and dedication even in the face of the nonsense under Gullit. I had hoped to be there this weekend, but it was not to be. I will be there in spirit. :-)
