WASHINGTON -- Kolcraft Enterprises Inc., of Chicago, is recalling about 115,000 "LiteSport" strollers that can suddenly collapse and hurt babies, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.

Locking mechanisms on either side of the stroller can break, causing the stroller to collapse. The company has received 22 reports of injuries to children, including cuts, abrasions and bruises to children's faces and limbs. In all, consumers reported the locking mechanism breaking on 124 strollers; in 31 cases, the stroller collapsed.

The strollers being recalled have the word "LiteSport" on the front of the footrest. The model number, 36122, is located on the back leg frame of the stroller. The manufacture date -- between December 1997 and December 1999 -- is below the model number.

Department and children's stores sold the strollers between December 1997 and December 2000 for about $30.

Consumers are asked to stop using these strollers immediately, and to call Kolcraft to receive a free repair kit at (800) 922-2130. Copyright © 2001, The Associated Press
