How to keep dried food out of chops

My word this seems to be a slow-moving bb!

I've become obsessed lately with the fact that Django gets dried food matted in the hair along his mandible just below the lip line. He's not really keen on having me pull it out with a comb or by hand, understandably, so I've taken to duplicating his scratching motions, or trying to break up the little clumps between my nails. I've tried washing his face a couple of times a week, but he's not very enthusiastic about that, either. Perhaps I should not worry about it if it doesn't bother him. Oddly enough, it is worse just after I've clipped him and the hair is short. Any thoughts?
