Crossing Over with John Edward

This show is my new obsession. It's on the SciFi network. It's similar to a talk show. The host, John Edward, is a medium. He walks around and gives people psychic readings as they sit in his audience. It amazes me. Have you seen it? do you believe it?

OK, I have totally seen this show and love it.

I'm not sure if I believe it or not - I mean, who am I to say? - but I love watching it.

I especially love it when it goes like this:

Edwards, to audience member: "I'm getting something about Happy Birthday in July... do you understand?"

Audience member: "No..."

"You're birthday isn't in July?"

"No..."

"Your husband's?"

"No... not his either..."

"Do you know anyone with a July birthday?"

"My cousin's son-in-law has a birthday in July..."

And he looks all satisfied like he just solved the mysteries of the dead, and the lady looks confused.

Oops. Please forgive the "you're" up there, when I meant "your."

Allison, you just crack me up. John Edward is my obsession, I watch and try to "catch" him on trying too hard to connect his messages with the people he is working with. Sometime he is so vague, but sometimes, he just blows me away with his accuracy.

Next to Chen Kenichi, John Edward is my #1 fantasy man.

Did you guys see the one where Melissa Gilbert was all pissy because her makeup person's dead relatives wouldn't shut up? John couldn't help it, he HAD to give the makeup girl the reading before he could get to Melissa (you know how it is) but Melissa was sitting there like, "Hey, who the hell played Laura Ingalls Wilder, her or me???"

Al, my favorite is when it goes like this:

JE: "Does the name Bob mean anything to you?" Audience Member: (clueless look) "No." JE: "Bob, Rob, something with an 'ob' sound, no I'm getting a strong Bob. Bob, Bobby?" AM: (clueless look, shakes head) JE: "Someone above you, had a heart condition, it's coming so strong I'm telling you, it's Bob. This person is telling me acknowledge Bob." AM: (like she's been thinking it all along, but totally doubtful) "Well, my father's name was Bob." JE: "Is he passed?" AM: "Well yes, but..."

Then John proceeds to get very bitchy about it. It makes me wonder: did these people think they were in line for the Price Is Right or what?!?! He says very specifically to STUDY YOUR FAMILY TREE. And some of these dumbasses don't even know their parents' birthdays.

Did you see the one where he's all "when you walk in your back door, are there stairs leading down?" "Yes" "and if you turn right is there like a laundry room?" "uh....yeah" "ok, he's showing me a 1986 Mets pennant on the wall". Cut to a camera shot of walking thru the man's house, down the stairs, to the right, into the laundry room. Pan to the wall where there is a bumper sticker which says "Mets 1986 Champions". Holy Cannoli Batman! John asks the guy did he cry in this room? The man, whose son had crossed over, was speechless. He later said he had gone down there when no one was in the house and just cried because he'd been missing his son. I think that was the show where I decided John Edward is my new boyfriend. I hope Mike Modano isn't mad....

My favorite was "Now, I don't think this is funny, but was your step- father- shot in the head?" "Why yes, he was." "I really don't think that's funny, but- would your father find that funny? Because he really seems to find that funny." John Edwards was SO disapproving of the dead guy's sense of humor.

I have yet to see this show, but John Edwards was the subject of the Entertainment Tonight cover story last night.

He looks completely unlike I'd imagined him.

But now. Must get more cable channels. Must watch.

I never miss his shows--the one at night on Sci-Fi and the one that plays during the day on a local channel. My favorite is the one where the woman's husband sends her a hug and John goes up in the audience and gives her the hug from her husband. I thought that was so sweet.
