I would like to know what would be the easiest way to convert a vhs tape to, say a mpeg. And maybe a clue as to what software and hardware would do a decent job of it.( no sound)

Hi, Jeremy:

I think you sould buy a video capture card to install into your computer. Then connect the audio and video ports from your VHS player to the capture card. The capturing software usually comes with the package of the capture card. After capturing the avi files, you can use one of the utilities to compress to MPEG files.

If there is still no sound, please check the setting of your software. Some capture cards may need to connect the audio port from VHS player to your sound card.
