TOTO FINALS RULES???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Does the away goals thingy work here? Or do we play E/T and golden goal because it's a final? I hope we can come out and bag a couple, I'd hate to have gone this far to lose on away goals if it ends up 1-1.

Kind of hope they do count so that we have to go for a win, makes for a much better spectacle.

It's applied so far (Villa scraped through on away goals) so can't see it changing just for the final.

I'm sure the rules for the 2nd leg will be the same for the first but with pens and away goals. Best not let them score, eh.

As i understand it ,if it is a draw after extra time the team who has the most full time footballers go through.Injured players do NOT count so therefore Newcastle SHOULD scrape it although this could depend on whether or not the troyes players could get the night off work/not babysitting! Also i believe if you can claim that you are a big club then entry is yours(based on your constant bleating about size, ohh err) Welcome to the Uefa cup.Fairplay league rip.

I detect a slight sarcastic tone SK, but we all know you're still upset and can't understand how the mighty sooonlun didn't get in... nah worry lad, you'll be priviledged too some day.

No,no my good man.We CHOSE not to go in.There is a major difference.Infact i think you should be wondering how you did actually get in! I am fully behind Peter reid in all that he does.

Sooper, you can't honestly believe that Peyter doesn't regret not entering Sunderland for the intertoto...

Especially as it looks like Sun'lun are going to be hit with a FA fine for excessive dirty play last season. But it will be suspended so if they can play nicely this season, they won't have to pay it. ;-)

Kev lets put it another way shall we . you might even agree. okay are we sitting comfortably -:

(a) Manchester Utd pre-season tour of the Far East , fantastic for its business/commercial value to the club , football wise bad move.

(b) Newcastle Utd, Inter-Toto , in cos sneck was left open , INVITED, Decide to Accept , great decision business wise , 75% ideal prep football wise , fault may be with YBR as some of the squad players have not had a run out, otherwise MEANINGFUL COMPETETION. We did need to get into the habit of winning, aside from that Roly our international financial expert who would just lurve to be one of lads reckons we need the dosh , who am I to argue , Robert 10 mill (its still called aiming for the top!!)

(c)Sunderland Football Club, pre-season , invited to Parkhead to smell the glove, read about Mansfield on here, apart from that, not a peep peeps, financially Roly may be able to explain , football wise please refrain , hate to see the habit of a lifetime broken!

** Kev I admire your blind devotion to your manager and if you sang this ditty in your first home game I am sure you will be the hero of whatever end you go to, to the tune of Follow Follow by the Glasgow Orpheus (phew nearly typed orange) Mail Assemble.--------- Follow Follow, we will follow Peyter,-------------------------- Here and there, everywhere we will follow on,-------------------- Fa there`s nae a man like Peyter Reid--------------------------- No not one , no not one,---------------------------------------- Newcastle KNOW all about their troubles,------------------------ We at Sunlun have not one--------------------------------------- Fa theres nae a man like Peyter Reid--------------------------- No not one, no not one----------------------------------------

**The only problem I can forsee is 50% of RTG would not sing along if past opinions are anything to go by, Sunlun have problems Buff!!!!!! away with ya , Graham/Soupah/Kev/Dog/Slim you missed your chance pal if you had given the esteemed Jonno a video copy of Premier Passions I guarantee he would have taken it over to Troyes , nearest you are ganna get to U Hope Land bonny lad, Gooood Morning Whiiickhammm!

Smell the glove?

A fine follow up album by Spinal Tap for their record breaking US tour, I recall.

"They're saying it's sexist"
"What's wrong with being sexy?"
"No, sexist."

Buff ,yet another confusing post.As you should know i do not use the peyter word.I use peata.I do have a preference towards Rangers so the song was not lost on me.Smell the glove??? At Parkhead it was not a glove i could smell. It was deprevation and decay. Given your posting about pre-season football i take it you are confident of a good season!? Teams have played pre-season for years. The intertoto has only been in existence for a couple of years and the vast majority of our teams have suffered as a result.Tell me,would you prefer to beat us or beat troyes? What would your reaction have been if we were in the intertoto and you were not?I'll tell you,the same as us. Anyhow i see that you have managed/stumbled/fluked/come across my nominture(is this the correct word??

SK in answer to your post, just a few pointers , okay ,starter for one

Peata. Peyter , Peter , call him what you like, you may observe that I make no reference to his facial appearance or use the ham sandwich,

Smell the Glove , yeah Bobby`s right up to a point, (for Dan info),but then confused Kev goes meandering into urban decay. At the back end of ten in a row and Tommy Burn`s reign Andy Goram after defying Celtic on more than on occassion reputedly threw his match gloves into the celtic dressing room uttering the immortal words. "Smell the Gloves".

Pre-season, check pal your facts, did I say confident?, the build up to this season is a lot more focussed and prepared than the previous where we toured the States and finished off in Scotland, I spoke about the same issue at this time last year , where were you then?

Troyes or Sunlun, stupid question , football is a international w.w. game, the rewards are there for those who can extract their parochial necks out of the sand, it seems that a lot of mackems can`t see this.

Stumbled/Fluked errm, Graham I have known for quite a while , McBeth will confirm , thing is I lead a busy life ,socially centered around football and football people , not fussed or interested any way.

Confusing, !! you have played that one out , Deal in Facts Danu, Deal in Facts!! ,now only about 25% of people on here may understand the last as it is dated ,they may get a laugh out of it , maybe not, cater for all on here , that`s the beauty of it , when the money people talk about finance, I do not get involved , interested thats all, modern music , aint got a clue , football now that`s different , did I ever tell !!!!!!!!another time

Attempted to reply to Kev`s post, day later , now the Buff is sitting on top of him, canna be very comfortable for him , "What`s up Mac?"

-- Anonymous, August 09, 2001

Is it just me or has the postings been mixed up? Is it just me or does Buff confuse even further? What has Andy Goram got to do with Sunderland? You have got to understand that your scottish rants carry little relevance outside of your caledonian oasis of nonsense! If your life is socially centred around football people then i suggest that i fit right into that catorgory.Under 10 home games missed since 1984,Well over 50 away grounds visited(many more than once, some up to seven times) I have also took weekend breaks abroad for the soul intention of football watching.Milan v lazio,Athleti madrdid v Valencia.Written warnings from work for match attendance (supposed to be on 2-10) So if you are trying to suggest that i do not measure up in your football peole scale i say that you are very wrong.

Kev, I see football a wee bit different from you admitedley , I loved the playing side from the age of 10 to 30 , packing up early to watch my beloved Newcastle against Man Utd as opposed to turning out for Swalwell in a Northern Combination Match at the start of the 69 season after returning from abroad. I put the boots on a couple of years later in a charity game for Edith Brough Homes at the Glebe , in the first five minutes I broke the leg of a guy I went to school with and that was the finish. Enjoyed refeering , suppose anyone who can handle 3 x games in succession in the Maltese 1st Div with the heat and temperament of the local players had to be a little bit mad as well as fit. Manageing local teams was more time consuming than anything else but I had over 20 years in that area , sometimes to the neglect of my own family. Having acquired a half badge for coaching before they became fashionable, I put this to good use and have to say I have derived more pleasure from this part of the game, coaching kids than anything else apart from actually playing. I am still involved in football, more administration perhaps , chairman/sec , last Sat we 270 kids taking part in a five a side for example.

Graham I see football as the beautiful game, there is more to it than Newcastle and Sunderland , its a big picture and sometimes just sometimes you have to drop the mask and take it in , nothing personal, Caledonian rant over I will just end by saying the words to that famous song "They will never take my Sunshine/Newcastle away" UNITED
