A "fishy" question!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

My sis and I are having a "discussion" and of course we both think that we are right! I love canned sardines, and I buy them packed in soybean oil. Sis says, that if I must eat those "things", I should get the ones packed in water...the oil isn't good for me. Now I know sardines are loaded with the "good' omega fish oils, but I thought soybean oil was good for you, also!! Who's right??

It's my understanding that pretty much all soybean oil is now made from GM-soybeans. That may or may not be of concern to you.

I'm not sure if the soybean oil still has any 'good' parts left in after processing or not...they always recommend expeller processed oils as sources for healthy oils. I dunno....I eat them packed in mustard.

Maybe if I just rinse the soybean oil off??? Mustard doesn't agree with my tummy!

How about draining them, Marcia? Pick out the fish, let the oil drip into the can a bit, then place them on paper towels for awhile. Don't do this if you have rude cats! ;-)

Well, I definitely have "rude" cats ( 10 to be exact), so I could do that under strict supervision! Actually,my cats are more spoiled than anything else :-)! Thanks for the info.

Marcia: Whats wrong with this picture? You have ten cats and you eat sardines. One would like to know how you get away with it!!! Lock them in the bathroom?

I eat those baby clams on occasion and my cat goes crazy!!! Ha! ..Kirk

Kirk...it's lke a circus when I'm sitting somewhere munching on something good and most of them are sitting in a semi-circle around my chair. Some will even sit up and play catch!! BUT..they stay off the table and countertops (when I'm not looking of course!) I'm wondering how does anyone have just one cat??

I seem unable to have just one cat. I got my first (kitten) in 1977, had her two months before I got another. Since then, I've had only a single cat on two occasions -- once for 3 weeks, and the next time, one month, before I got another. Right now I have two, and three at a time seems to be my limit so far.

geez marcia, your cats are well trained! I was envisioning you locking YOURSELF in the bathroom with the sardines! I've occasionally visited at Joys and been trailed by her chow-cat, Katrina-Kitchen-Shark. Retreat into the bathroom to hide and there will be paws fishing under the door....

I just saw a news story about a cat circus in Japan with domestic cats doing all kinds of tricks...maybe you have the makings of a marketable commodity. Hire out to perform at children's birthday parties with the Amazing Kitty Circus!

Julie...when I can teach my cats to stop "depositng" hairballs just outside the bedroom door (to be stepped in at 2 a.m.) only then will I consider my cats well trained!! They ALL respond to individual names, though :-)! Especially when preceded by "Damn It!!" Opps, can I print that here??

Actually, I believe that ALL cats are of Chinese descent, so it is perfectly proper to put their family name, 'Damnit', in front of their familiar name, for instance 'Damnit Katrina' or 'Damnit Harry'. :-D

I don't have any CATS named "Harry" :-)....but, strangely enough, I do find myself saying Dammit Harry under my breathe alot, sometimes!! Wonder why??!!

Got a great family story about cat names...

Back when our family was still milking cows we had a lot of "barn cats". Most of them didn't have names, but one particular orange striped cat who always seemed to be under dad's feet got the name "Dammit". One day the minister of our church stopped by (my mom was the church secretary), and saw the orange striped cat sitting by the garage. I was out side playing at the time, I must have been about 4 years old. The minister said to me "That's a pretty kitty, what's it's name?" and I replied "My daddy calls that one ..." My mom stepped out the door just then and yelled "Spot! That cat's name is Spot."

Later on Dammit had kittens and one of them looked just like her, so we named that one "DamnYouToo".
