Well done, QRS - endgame approaching

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I didn't expect retaliation so soon, but with a good competitor, I shouldn't be surprised. It looks like after 4 years at the site, someone is finally going to complete Arkanoid.

I came back from an SCA war event all weekend to find five high scores missing though--that part kind of sucked. :)

Thanks QT.

I had a god run on the US set, but donīt expect me to come near that again.. I was very lucky+played well, and thats not a common thing for me on that game :=)

Anyway it was easier with this mouse (newer one than last year), but I have played it too much the last 10 days so I need a break.:)

I also search the net for a spinner.. I want the arcade feeling!!

Regards, and keep the good scores comming QT!

I was also looking for a spinner a while back and the closes thing i could come to a spiner was rewiring an atari 2600 paddle, still that won't have the "weight" and mobility of the arkanoid spinner. please keep us posted on your spinner findings, you'll have a lot of buyers here!

Ahh I never even though about the paddle to the atari 2600.. I think I have two of those somewhere..

Can you explain (in detail) how to make them compatible with the PC? I know very little about things like that Chad:=)

Oakster is trying to turn a mouse or a trackball into a spinner too. if you attach some larger "wheel" or something on the mousewheel for left and rigt movement it might work.

You can combine an Atari paddle top with an optical mouse... search previous threads about spinners/Arkanoid at MARP--someone posted a link to a site that tells how to build a spinner. It might have been Krogman, but I don't honestly remember. I started work on one last year, but never finished it.

Anders + co , I`ve got a working Logitech Wingman Warrior joystick complete with built-in spinner .My main reason for acquiring this was to play Tron and especially Arkanoid . Tron is fine , but I find that Arkanoid is difficult . Now maybe I`m doing something wrong with the settings etc..., but I`ve tried lots and lots of settings , and my conclusion is that the 'axis ' of the WW is smaller than arcade spinner , thus making life difficult . Other spinner games are fine , but Arkanoid is a problem for me . The 'vaus' does not respond as fast or in any way accurate as the arcade 'feel' ?

Then again , maybe I`m a complete gob-shite , and am not spending enough time examining even more different settings :)

You play Arkanoid with a mouse Anders ? I`ve tried , but I`m crap ( or rather the mouse is..) But a friend of mine has one of these ' Laser Mouse ' thingys' . Looks like I may invest in one of these : greater control , no cleaning , etc....( plus it lights-up really well in the dark ,if your into that sort of thing.....)

Cheers,

AL - Arkanoid 1.3m , arcade...( allegedly...hmmphh )

I'm playing with a 'laser mouse', Al, and I can tell you that it greatly improves my game. Not to the point of QRS' game, but then again, I never finished Arkanoid in the arcade.

When I get my Internet back up and can freely d/l again, I'm going to have a look at your Metro-Cross .inp and see if I can't add a bit of competition. Did you give up trying to catch Ken? (He certainly isn't easy to stay ahead of, is he?)

Heh..

QT , don`t D/L my INP . Look at Kens'. He reminded me of 'things'/strategies done long ago in the arcades , which I forgot about .

Haven`t played this game in ages ( tournament duty...and stuff..) , but may give it a go now . Maybe .

Cheers,

AL

Alex, that's criminal! Your .inp was totally different than Ken's! I play far cleaner than Ken does for most of the game, but that skate trick changes everything! Plus, I finally see how to use those stupid confetti pads.

Excellent! Get ready to defend your score :)

How about
http://www.interq.or.jp/www-user/fukucyan/Score/metrocrs1030600.zip
version is winm37b10. World record.

Very nice. Had to play it with sound off though otherwise it goes out of sync at rd8.

sorry very unsuitable info here. forget it.

-- C33master (weavuspert@yahoo.co.jp), August 12, 2001.

that recording was impressive, to say the least. i didn't even know about the running between the floor lines trick. i can do about 40K on the first level--certainly not 85K. i would be happy just to be able to finish the game.

-- Q.T.Quazar (qan@home.com), August 12, 2001.

note about the cool metrocross recording: i was able to play it back with sound, but needed to keep frameskip=0, very cool, too bad there wasn't a special final round.

so where "were" you going to post this master-33?
