OT - Woman abducted in the building next to my work

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News : One Thread

Now this just gives me the warm and fuzzies about going to work each day... Now maybe the cop shop will put cameras in the parking lot for our security, as some of us have been complaining about it for a while. My car has gotten keyed there, and I mean keyed bad. Just another reason I hate to be there anywhere near dark, but I think this happened Monday morning.

Doctor Found Alive In Texas

Theobald-Nasr Treated For Dehydration

OKLAHOMA CITY, 12:30 a.m. CDT August 7, 2001 -- An Oklahoma City doctor reported missing early Monday was found alive in Texas, the apparent victim of an abduction, police said.

Lara Theobald-Nasr, 28, was discovered in the trunk of her vehicle Monday afternoon near a rest stop in Laredo, Texas, about 18 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, said Capt. Jessica Cummins, an Oklahoma City police spokeswoman.

Theobald-Nasr was taken to the local hospital for treatment of dehydration, but was doing fine Monday night.

She said that one man accosted her in the institute’s parking lot and drove her in her 1994 black Honda Accord to south Texas.

Theobald-Nasr was forced to lay across the back seat of the car and at times, her hands were tied.

About 18 miles north of Laredo, Texas, the car was parked and Theobald-Nasr was told to get into the trunk.

Later, Theobald-Nasr forced open the trunk and called 911 on her cell phone to summon authorities.

A rag soaked with chemical had been used to subdue her.

Theobald-Nasr's family was traveling to Texas and was scheduled to arrive before midnight.

Police are looking for two Hispanic men in connection with the abduction, Cummins said.

Sheesh. Please take care of yourself. My company has a rent-a-cop available to escort us to wherever our cars are if we're here late in the evening. Or they'll pay (well, the client gets billed) for us to take a cab. My rule has been to make sure I'm not here that late, so I have never taken advantage of the escort service.

Sheeps, carry pepper spray on your key ring and please don't go out to your car without someone with you.

For those that do not know, I'm at the Medical University part of University of Oklahoma. We're pretty much close to downtown OKC instead of at the main campus in Norman. We have our own cop shop. I know most of them pretty well, and have utilized their service of escorting me to my car when I've had to be here in the early morning hours. We normally have about 30 cops during the daytime shift. I know that they can't be everywhere at once, but heck.... Maybe they should hire more. They do the police work for all of the hospitals and clinics here. Just another reason why I hate parking so far from the building I work in (5/8 of a mile). Parking is a B*$%^ here and there isn't really room to create more of it. Gotta get those new medical buildings ya know. This campus has always suffered from "not being in a good part of town", but I don't think anything like this has happened before.

Like I said, just gives ya the warm and fuzzies.... NOT!

Please be extra alert, it is so easy to get thinking on something and lose track of what is happening around us.!!!

I hope you might find someplace else to work. I was grabbed in the foyer of a hospital some years ago...totally unexpected....I had mace in my purse and the car keys in my hand.. I stopped and looked into the poarking lot before I eneter the foyer. when this happened, I literaly FORGOT EVERYTHING i knew to do...Only God in His mercy set a couple into the foyer just then (1 am) and they scared him off of me and got me back into the hosptial.

So it is better to NOT be alone!

Sheeps, I often hear of cops being sent to do an escort for either someone locking up a Burger King or similar or simply employees leaving work in an unsafe area late at night and needing an escort to their cars. You might try calling your local cop shop, see if they can send someone over just to watch till you get safely in your car. If they're not busy, they don't mind doing it, really they don't. You might have to wait ten minutes or so but it's worth it to be safe. If you decide to leave without them, be sure to call and cancel.
