Mook's Fate

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

What will happen to the once great Mook? Will he head to the obscurity of a 20 something male OKer only to come back in his late 30's? Will a humiliating run as the red leg runner for OK at the 2001 US Relay champs force him to early retirement? Spike, on the heals of a good 2001 WOC seems to be the heir apparent to the anchor leg. Will it be Mean Gene, Fritz or Dave as the (lead-off?) man? I think the answer will be had at the Possum Trot this year. Who will be out front at the end? Where does Mikell Platt fit into all of this?

Now that Swampfox's A-meet rumor page has confirmed San Diego's bid to hold the US night champs on Dec. 1, many in the US orienteering community are thinking that the 2001 Possum Trot field will be "weak" at best. That's hardly a stirring endorsement for a meet billed as a window into the future of OK relay hopes!

Fading into the darkness.

I am a mere jigsaw piece in the Great Puzzle of Life. A plasticized toy soldier positioned at point on a velveteen carpet of cheerios, about to be ambushed by lurking osage orange bushmen. The stiletto mirror in the pocket of my heel device reveals nothing Bond would fear.

Adding to what Mook said, if the Night Champs and the Possum Trot overlap on the same weekend, it looks like I will be able to spare my legs another KC thorn trashing this year, and do so with a perfectly good excuse.
