Marriage Validity

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I am presently courting a Roman Catholic woman and considering marriage. I respect her beliefs and would like to be married in her parish. I am of the Lutheran faith and have been married before. I was not married in a church. I was married by a Judge and have subsequently divorced. Do I need an annulment of my first marriage in order to enter into a sacramental marriage in a Catholic Church?

Hello, James.
You need to speak to the pastor of your friend's parish as soon as possible. He will help you to prepare the paperwork necessary to trigger the work of the diocese's marriage tribunal. This Church court will carefully examine the evidence and determine whether or not your previous "union" was valid.
If they issue a Decree of Nullity (because of invalidity), then you and the Catholic woman in your life will be able to be married.
St. James, pray for us.
God bless you.
John
