greenspun.com : LUSENET : MATH : One Thread

So, I'm like way early.

But the diarist nominations are out. Yay Allison! But y'all, Pineapple? Not that I don't love her journal, because I do. But best new journal? I find that a bit surprising.

Oh, and Melissa has infiltrated the forum. Watch out for the craziness!

Congrats Al!

But Mattise and Pizza??!! I have no idea how that could possibly beat out annachao.com?

Once again, it's a lot of the same names as last year. But whatever. I don't know how anyone can take them very seriously, being as there are nine billion journals and -- since I'm guessing it's not a blind judging process -- bias can't help but enter it.

I hope Jen wins for Best Journal, and Sara wins the Legacy. I'm actually on the notify list for all three legacy finalists, but while I enjoy reading Heather's journal I'm flabbergasted it got nominated for that. All I can figure is that someone on the committee knows her, since Cricket (www.catreese.com) got nominated for Best Writing, which is ridiculous, and she and Heather are really close online friends.

I was robbed! Just kidding. Sort of.

Hee. We just went to see Legally Blonde, and it was pretty funny.

Al totally deserves Best New Journal. But y'all, Mo for Best Writing? My ass. Yeah, Mike, I feel the same way about More Than This. It's cute, but not Legacy material.

And don't tell Jen this, but I don't get it for her and best journal this time. She was on "hiatus" for half the quarter.

There's a lot about these nominations I just don't get ... maybe because it's one of the rare times where I actually read a bunch of the nominated sites. More Than This and whatever catreese's journal is called are not that great -- they're entertaining, but I wouldn't call them really well-written -- and yet they got nominated a bunch of times.

And if Sara doesn't get the Legacy, that will be a joke. Rob should probably get it at some point, but Perfect Way was possibly the best- written journal on the 'net for a long time. And Heather, though I enjoy her site, is not in that class.

I didn't expect to get nominated, because I don't take my site seriously enough for that to happen (check out the out-of-date archive page, for example), but I'm really stunned AB wasn't up for Best New Artist seeing that one of the three is just not that good and I think even Pineapple would agree that AB's journal is better than her's.

Allison, if you don't win this thing, they should have Arthur Anderson run an investigation of the voting process. Hate Your Daddy is in an entirely different solar system than the other two nominees, and if it doesn't win, I'm just going to assume that there's a conspiracy against MATH +1.

Well, I nominated AB for Best Design too, and I really thought I'd see you there, at the very least.

I'm not really familiar with a lot of the other nominees. I'm just still stunned by pineapple and best new journal. Wha?

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Mike - you should start a topic about your latest entry. It was really good.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Oh, and Rob was like the chair of the finalists panel, and *this* is the quarter he's up for the legacy?

Riiiiiight.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Rob, Schmob.

Al, you know you gots my vote.

I'm heading off to Starkville. Woo woo.

I'll leave y'all with this:

Meloonsa has posted.

BAM!

My modem was down all day Sunday. I think it was because Chris and I killed the Internet by looking up Slobberbone tab all day Saturday and playing the guitar for 100 hours solid.

I can now play Josephine and Lumberlung which are my two faves. Neither of them has F in it.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

I wish I could play Lumberlung.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Ah, scratch that. Josephine has F. I can half play it.

Lumberlung is SO easy.

Y'all, I sort of don't care about the diarist.net thing. I can't believe I got nominated, considering the infrequency and recent low quality of my update

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Man, I hate IE.

It cuts me off every time! That's supposed to say "updates."

Y'all... have you heard the Ludacris song "Area Codes?" It KILLS me. Basically, it's just him, spouting off a bunch of numbers and saying he has hos in different area codes. I mean, it makes me laugh like a loon.

213! 502! 404! 636! Dirty South for life!

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Have you seen the video? It's basically just hos with numbers on their chests.

The other Hannah's suggestion:

Oh, you know what you should have at the MATH +1 Forum? An anonymous thread. Where you can talk anonymously about things like sex toys and adolescent shoplifting and drinking beer from a can- you know, things you're too embarassed to discuss otherwise.

I know Beth has something like that where people post with the same email address (hers is anon@xeney.com or soemthing)

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Oh, the video is the best. The BEST! My personal favorite is Miss 205, as that is my Birmingham area code.

The anon thread sounds fine with me.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Beth has a new forum that knocks Greenspun's hat in the dirt. I'm jealous.

Y'all, did you SEE the Best Design finalists? Gah.

I mean, whatever. Not like I care or anything. I mean, really. Hee.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Only one of them I liked. The one in the middle? What.ever.

AB you were robbed on that one, seriously.

Oh! I've been meaning to check xeney all morning.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

I do think it's kind of funny that padding is like an online jouranl forum phenom now.

Original padders are the coolest, because we learned it's not cool anymore.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Oh, man. Why must I always be the L_L?

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Because I'm trying to make all these little fixes on my site and thus am not checking the board as often today.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

And I am playing Drunken Angel over and over along with the cd.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Mike - the guest entries page was a great idea. All handy in one place!

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Yeah, I had to come in anyway for my chat and a meeting, and figured I'd do a little work on the site. I also put the MATH entry back on the side-nav, and prettied up the bio page. And, of course, finally updated the archives.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Shite. Mike, I just called you "Berman" on the Plus One forum. Sorry about that.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Are we not supposed to call you Berman?

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Well, I know Mike said a while back that he was trying not to get discovered on the Web by his friends and co-workers. I try not to do it, but "Berman" just rolls off the tongue, you know. Or from the fingertips, or whatever. You know what I mean.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Well crap. I do it a lot. Like half my guest entry I blabbered about "Berman." Mayn.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

I think Planning a Sky is just about the coolest name for a journal.

Did y'all read Cricket's finalist comedic entry? Duuuuumb. (By the way, that's not the same Cricket from squishy forum, is it??)

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Y'all, I just wrote the funniest entry ever. Well, I always laugh at my own jokes, but this might actually be funny to some other people.

I'll post it tonight, along with the MOC's live music findings.

-- Anonymous, August 06, 2001

Holy crap. Someone from IP 207.67.200# had 120 page views today. That is NUTS.
