THE SIRCAM virus has wormed itself into the Department of Foreign Affairs' computer system, its top information systems manager said Friday.

The virus, which sends itself and all the documents in the computer to the electronic mail addresses on its email software, struck the geographic and consular offices of the department, said foreign department spokesman Victoriano Lecaros.

He said the department was attempting to isolate stricken computers to prevent contamination of the other offices.

"We're now inoculating the virus," said Lecaros, who is also concurrent head of the department's management information system.

The department was the only Filipino government office to report a virus attack following the release of the Sircam and Code Red worms. Agence France-Presse
