Can I install vb & sql ser 7 in one computer for learning ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : SQL Server Database Administration : One Thread

Dear Sir, I am an Informix/4gl & SQL programmer and would like to learn vb & sql server 7 at home using my home computer. Which version of sql server 7 and VB would be the most appropriate. Can I install them under window 9xx or has it got to be window 2000. If later, which version of window 2000 would be the best(only for learning sql server 7 & VB not for business). I would be greatful if you could answer my questions.

Yours faithfully

Mehdi,

According to http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/trial/2000/default.asp you can install a 120-day evaluation version of the Enterprise Edition of SQL Server 2000 on NT (any version) or Windows 2000 (any version).

Trial versions of SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition, which runs on the Windows 98 and Windows Millennium Edition operating systems, and SQL Server 7.0 (discontinued) are not available from Microsoft. You may be able to obtain these elsewhere.

As to VB, that is outside the scope of this forum, but 6.0 is the latest nonbeta release.

Good Luck,

Eric
