I have a purebred 18 mo. old female Aussie here for adoption. She is a tri-color, looks like an oversized Sheltie. Very sweet and well-adjusted little lady. For details and a picture, find Grateful Acres under the "rescues" list at www.petfinder.org We are near Kalamazoo, MI.

You might clarify for those not knowledgeable 'bout breeds whether is is an Australian Shepherd or an Australian Cattle Dog. I'd guess from the color and discription she's a very pretty Aust. Shepherd. Hope you find a good home for her. :)

A cattle dog would not be tri colored or look like a sheltie .She must be a australian sheperd.Cattle dogs look like dingo can be red or blue.

Sorry. Yep, she's an Australian Shepherd.

Don, are you tri colored? Naww, and I bet you're a bit older than 18 months! LOL PS Being from "down under" can you tell me of any "Aussie" sites that might have pictures of wild and domestic animals from there? Trying to make an Australian Animals Quilt for my son who is going to be stationed there in a couple of years(he's with a seal team). Thanks for the humor, enjoy your posts. :)

Turns out the critter is not even an Australian at all!

For all those who have been wondering why I was so rude to Shannon... It is my understanding that the 'Australian Shepherd' is an American breed has no known connection with the big red land.

Tri-coloured? Me? Well, actually yes. Coat colour, that is - not counting skin. Brown, and grey, and a teensy little patch of white that's always been there in my beard. 18 Months? Well, yes - 18 months or thereabouts - over 50 years.

As for Australian Shepherd Australian connections, John, it's there, but you've got to look hard, and it's pretty tenuous. I thought at first they must have been talking about Kelpies, but apparently their breed derived from a dog which came from Australia in the mid 1800's.

You want animal pictures? Well, it could be a dangerous question. Best I can suggest is to do a search. Go to http://www.apcstart.com/ . It's a portal page provided by Australian Personal Computer magazine, and about halfway down is a section on search engines, some of which are Australian or Australian and New Zealand specialised. My personal favourite is WebWombat (which incidentally gives you a picture of a Wombat). I tried inputting "animal picture" there and got some quite respectable responses. Also some useless ones. None that immediately caught the idea which were improper. Note that one of them has a mixture of feral and native animals, and is used for teaching children about which is which.

OK Don, I will take your word on the Australian Shepherd. What I like about the animals of Australia is that the one island/continent has it's own set of unique livestock all the way from insects, animals, birds and even (once upon a time) dinasaurs.

.... which of course also applies to New Zealand. Kiwis are (relatively?) unique. Tuataras. Kakapos. Wetas. Keas. NZ native flax. Kauri. Pahutukawa. et al. Not that I pay attention, you understand.
