To The Mackems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

It's up to you. You can all but wreck this board with abuse or you can take part in good natured debate and friendly banter. Those who have made an effort in this direction have been made welcome. At least one has been extended extraordinary patience. This is called "being human".

This board is not the CIA and it's easy to get in. So those intelligent Mackems amongst you who like coming on here and enjoy the banter, I urge you to join with me and criticise the morons. This is NOT Magpies vs Mackems. It is decent ordinary people vs morons. Morons are not welcome be they Mags or Mackems IMHO.

I'm sure I can count on Roly and ML3 to be good North-Easteners. SK I strongly believe (on the evidence he has supplied) is unable to drag himself out of the moron category. Only this morning he has backed the latest extremely childish and moronic attack, despite being offered the hand of friendship several times here. I'll be happy if he can prove me wrong and start to show signs of intelligence as others have.

Perhaps some of you may protest that Mags abuse the RTG board. I wouldn't know as I never look at it. If it happens, I'm opposed to that too. The Morons need their own SMB/FTM board where they can show each other how "clever" they are in outdoing each others abuse.

It already exists, Jonno. It's called RTG. ;-))

And to be fair, sk is trying. (Sometimes very trying ;-) ) But there could be some hope for him if he can avoid the easy road of reducing himself back to the level of the latest psychotic mackem posting.

I agree with Ciara, SK does try and is sometimes worth the time, he struggles to maintain it though. Roly and ML3 are more than welcome.

Jonno, IMVHO, I don't believe they can wreck it, tho it may never be the same as it was.

Despite all the p!$$-taking about this BBS being cliquey, it is the friendship and warmth extended to all on here which makes it such a special place. I know when I first joined the predecessor the good ship Communicata (RIP) I felt very nervous and no doubt many newbies (oh, how 20th century) on here will probably feel the same. But after a few nano-seconds, I was made to feel very welcome. There might appear to be some aggressive attitudes at times, but most is said with tongues firmly planted in cheeks (if not busy licking up to somebody).

Personally, I have met a number of the regulars on here, and without exception, have found them a very decent set of folks - yes, even LR (who I now count as a friend) and the oft missed Dancin' Dave. On my travels, I have had the opportunity to meet a number of exiles, and indeed my son is currently in Sydney where he has been made most welcome by the exiles down-under. You don't get that sort of cameraderie many places!

I believe ML3, Roly and Soops should be welcome on here, along with any other fans from any other club, as long as they respect the house rules. I have often described this place as a virtual pub, and like any of its real counterparts, if you misbehave, the landlord is fully entitled to ask you to step back in line or leave if that is not done. But unlike a real pub, the bad language can be removed by the landlord on here - not that I'd hope it would be necessary.

More tea, vicar??

We are getting way too self-conscious on here. We need the season to start.

Just from lurking on and observing various NUFC forums, mainly the Strawberry, TOTT and this one:

I think a fair majority of Mackems frequenting the Toon boards are good natured, in for the banter, even (dare I say) eloquent and intelligent.

It just that there's a vocal and *very small* minority of obsessives (maybe even just one bloke - though it could be a Texas-Chainsaw- esque family of them)who compulsively turn up to juggle around various stock insults ('HAHA', 'Big club my arse', 'you're the sh!t of Tyne and Wear' etc.).

There's not much point In either confronting them or outrightly avoiding them. It's like that tramp who wanders in and out of shops in Eldon Square and reads the labels out loud - for the most part you ignore him, but if he does address you directly you humour him then pass on by.

I see no need to plead for civility from any member/contributor of this BBS. The majority, and I'm talking 99.9% of the contributors on here are decent folk who are here to share their love for the Magpies. For a person to come onboard here and be anything less than cordial is unwarranted and unnecessary.

For those who desire to post on RTG and assume that they represent this BBS is irresponsible and if this is so they should make their intention known that in fact they DO NOT represent any members of this BBS.

I have little patience for these malcontents, and when they post I would most definitely do not entertain these people with the dignity of a response. Surely there are some who do and that's fine. But don't sit there and argue one minute and bitch about them the next. If you don't like what they say... ignore it. I know I do.

It's a good place this BBS, by and large civil, humourous and well informed. I'm not the most frequent of contributors but I enjoy the majority of input from people here, whether they support Newcastle or not. This BBS is different from the Strawberry and RTG, they are more like free-for-alls and there's a place for that, so if you have to act like a 12 year old then please do it elsewhere. This is something different and I'd ask anyone who wants to come here to contribute in the spirit that goes with this place. If you support Sunderland, Man U or anyone else, show some respect and you'll be welcome.
