Stuff You Can't Live Without

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MATH Plus One : One Thread

I'm talking about the things you need to feel like where you are is home, whether it's your new house, or a hotel room, or a shack on some deserted beach.

For me, it's a good pillow, my ancient all-cotton tufted chenille bedspread, a fridge full of fresh produce & beer, and a couple good books. How 'bout you?

Sunflower seeds, Marlboro lights, Community coffee, Hogue chardonnay, a book, and my Randy Newman Good Old Boys CD.

And my iMac.

A REM CD, my favorite A&F shorts, my Virginia T-shirt, a cheese platter, and some Guinness.

My wookie (my nickname for my dog), my magazines (People and US Weekly, I'm looking at you), my flannel pjs, old tapes of "Buffy" in the VCR, and doughnuts of any kind.

Montego, my journal and my scrapbooks are really the only things I couldn't live without. Those are the only things I'd try to save in event of a fire, at any rate.

But things that make me feel at home? My shampoo, sleeping with four pillows and my pajama bottoms. I'm a good little traveler.

My alarm clock with two-inch high numbers so I can see without my contacts.

My rog.

A Starbucks no farther away than a 20 minute drive.

At least two books and three magazines.

My big black sweater, my big chartreuse floor pillows, a bag of doritos, and a fountain Dr. Pepper with lots of ice.

My knives. I love my knives, and when you're at your mother's house and Cutco won't cut it, or you're at a beach house and you know the kitchen will be ill-equipped, it's nice to have your very own knives.

My vast book collection, my just as vast music collection, my quilted comforter covered in butterflies, lots of Lyons tea, and bread and butter for toast making. And the most important of all would have been my beloved kitty Spanky, but she was killed on Monday.

Anna, that's terrible about Spanky! I'm so sorry.

Thanks, Sophie. I'm kind of heartbroken right now, as are a lot of my friends, who all loved the Spank. I know I'm biased, but she was the greatest cat ever.
