NEWCASTLE are to launch an appeal to have the return leg of their Intertoto Cup final with Troyes put back 24 hours. The Magpies face Chelsea in a Premiership opener on Sunday, August 19 - and are due to host Troyes little over 24 hours later on Tuesday, August 21.

United will ask Uefa if there is any chance of the St James's Park encounter being put back 24 hours to give the United players time to recover from their game at Stamford Bridge.

Hmm - Sunday 19th match finishes at around 16:00 and the game on Tuesday 21st starts at 19:45. A wee bit over 24hrs if my maths is correct. However, I agree with the club's action to ask for a change to 22nd. Of course, being the sensible thing to do, UEFA will probably turn us down and ask for it to be played on the Monday so we can go ahead with the Leicester game on Wednesday ;-)
