Drills Held At Tinker Air Force Base

Weather Impacts Exercises

MIDWEST CITY, Okla., 6:08 p.m. CDT August 1, 2001 -- People at Tinker Air Force are preparing to go to war, but this time it is only a drill.

On Wednesday, special training was held at the Midwest City base. The airmen and women were decked out in full gear as they trained for combat, using ground burst simulators and smoke grenades.

But Col. Robert Lundie of the U.S. Air Force says that some of the exercises have been scaled back because of the hot weather.

"We go into a reduced work cycle," he said. "For instance, we'll go into a 45-minute work cycle, with 15 minutes off. That can go to a 15-minute work cycle or no work cycle, depending on how hot it is."

The training exercise was scheduled to end Wednesday night.

--- end of story

I don't remember the AF doing these types of exercises there before. They're all flyboys or they work on the planes. My radar level just went up a peg or two.
