Robert deal done and dusted

According to today's L'Equipe:

Laurent Robert, who met yesterday with the director and manager of Newcastle, will leave PSG today for a transfer fee of 110 million francs and a monthly wage of around one million francs. The contract should be signed on Wednesday morning, after the Reunion Islander, bought for 45 million francs by PSG from Montpellier in 1999, passed the medical examination successfully on Tuesday. While PSG faces Gantoise at the Park de Princes in the 2nd leg of the semi-final of the Intertoto Cup on Wednesday evening (0-0 in the first leg), "Lolo" will be presented to the Newcastle fans before the Newcastle-1860 Munich clash in the same competition (3-2 in the first leg). A press conference will also be organised in England. Robert scored 24 goals in 61 matches in the French championship for PSG.

A Pretty good goals per game ratio for a winger.

So that's £10.3m in transfer fee. Hell of a lot of money.

But a monthly salary of a million Frog Francs is nearly £94,000! Shurely shome mishtake? Is this a UK record?

It's 'only' £21,700 per week. Poor lad.

That's per month though. It works out at less than £25,000 per week, which is about the levels reported earlier.

It might be his take home pay. French salaries are usually negotiated that way, as I found to my benefit when negotiating my salary. I thought we were discussing a before tax figure!

Less than £25k a week! Bliddy cheapskates our board. Will he be able to get council accomodation?

So long as he doesn't work for Radio 1 I think he'll be fine

YBR says Robert has a "dexterous left foot" Surely a contradiction in terms. A sinister left foot would be more appropriate!

According to my Aunty: French striker Laurent Robert has completed his £10m transfer to Newcastle United from Paris St Germain. The 26-year-old passed a medical at St James' Park before signing a five-year contract.
Yes, 3 broken legs and a scalp of split-ends
Manager Bobby Robson recently claimed the French B international is a combination of Ryan Giggs and John Barnes.
He sh@gs black sheep???
Robert played in PSG's 0-0 draw with Lille in their season's opener on Saturday. Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd told the club's website: "We are delighted to have secured the services of Laurent for the next five seasons.
Presumably just thinking Charvet has joined us
"He is a very exciting attack-minded player who I am sure will be an excellent addition to our team. "We have been chasing the signature of Laurent for a long time, and whilst it has been a bit of a struggle, it was worth the wait. "We are relieved he has put pen to paper and we are now looking forward to him stepping out on to the St. James' Park pitch - as I am sure our fans are too."
Mmm - is this an offer? Can I step out onto SJP tonight along with 35,000 other???
