KSATFormer Call-Taker Claims Miss Cleo Is Acting
Woman Says She Followed Script, Gathered Caller Info
SAN ANTONIO, 9:49 p.m. CDT July 31, 2001 -- A San Antonio woman, who worked for nationally known telephone psychic Miss Cleo, claims that she can prove the clairvoyant is a fraud.
A woman, who asked not to be identified, told KSAT 12 News that Miss Cleo is just an actress.
"They told me she was," the woman said. "She's just an actress. She doesn't even read cards. 16153 is her extension, if you call. You won't get through to her. You'll get another reader."
The anonymous woman said that she quit working as a call-taker for the company Access Resource Services that represents Miss Cleo. She said that she was given scripts of how to convince people to stay on the phone past their three free minutes.
She claims that she was required to collect as much information as possible about a customer. The information she gathered was later used to harass callers until they called Miss Cleo again, she said.
"We'd get a bonus for every piece of information they'd get, and by the time we got all this information out of them, the three minutes was up, and then you'd go on to your reading," the woman said.
