What Cissy said

A lot of people are wondering what Cecilia Nilsson said after the Classic race. "Riktig skitskog var det." Well, she probably said more than that, but that was a start.

When they interviewed Jorgen Rostrup after his win, he described the terrain as 'shit' but then said he knew it was going to be like that and was prepared for it.

I found it interesting that Rostrup (who is just 23 years old) ran with a big magnifying glass. I should also point out that I bought myself a big magnifying glass just a few days ago.

I think it's interesting that maps are being made in such a way that a 23 year old World Champion would find it advantageous to run with a magnifying glass.

At the Finnish WOC I ran in - 22 years ago - the maps were at 1:20,000 scale. We ran in the same general area and same terrain type as this current WOC.

The maps are over-drawn (you could say). Apparently they wanted to use 1:10,000 but IOF didn't allow it in the classic. In the short and relay (both with 1:10,000 scales) I used my magnifier and was thankful I had it. That says something about both my eyesight and the level of detail.

Another aspect of the mapping was the heavy use of form lines. They drew a lot -- it was best to consider the map a 2.5 meter contour interval.

That was true with all the training maps I ran on. The contour interval was really 2 1/2m because every form line was taken. Those places must have been base mapped at 2 1/2m.
