Nikon LS-1000 and Windows 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

A while ago I committed the cardinal sin of upgrading from WinNT 4.0 to Win2000. I moved my Adaptec 2940UW SCSI card and my Nikon LS-1000 slide scanner to the new box. During boot, my SCSI bios recognizes the LS-1000 (as well as my Jazz drive). However Win2000 doesn't have a driver to load for it. I have installed the Nikon LS4500 software package which has the Nikon Control 2.2. The software comes up, scans my scsi card for each target and reports no scanner attached. Trying to scan anything results in the error "no interface card found for the device. Error # 03000551). For my old NT box, I had to install a ASPI32.dll file from the Adaptec EZSCSI package because NT didn't ship with the ASPI32 interface. However, Adaptec warns that EZSCSI is not compatible with Win2000. I checked my Win2000 system and there is an ASPI32.dll installed.

My question is, has anyone gotten Windoz 2000 to work either with Nikon Control 2.2 or LS-1000? If not what software or firmware upgrades do work.

If not, who wants to buy my LS-1000 + Autoloader 8-)

Thanks,

Dear Armand,

follow this link to get instructions: http://www.nikon-euro.com/nikoneuro_en/faq/scan/before/en/FAQ_scan_en_ a9.htm

It DOES work. After you install the ASPI-Layer, it should work. In the Device Manager, the Scanner will have an exclamation point next to it, but this does not matter. It works anyway.

I cut and pasted the info on the linked page, but it is formatted poorly, so follow the link above. It also provides a link for the ASPI file.

Good luck.

Nikon Scan 1.63 (for LS-1000, LS-20, LS-4500, AX-110, AX-210) and 2.x (for LS-2000 and LS-30) relies on the Adaptec ASPI layer (a software interface, developed by Adaptec) for communication between SCSI adapter and the software. The Windows 2000 operating system as supplied on CD ROM makes use of so-called windows driver model (WDM) software interface for SCSI adapters, which is a different, incompatible method of interface between applications and SCSI hardware. To ensure that Nikon Scanners are fully functional with Windows 2000 and Adaptec SCSI cards, a Windows 2000 certified release of Adaptec's ASPI layer is required from Adaptec. This information is summarised on the Adaptec web page
