Look at these flowers! I didn't know what they were untill this weekend. I found the clump of green about 4 years ago, separated them and moved them here along the fence. They have never flowered before, only green long leaves. We got about a foot of rain this week, maybe these need allot of water to flower. Do you know what they are? Aren't they neat! They grew this tall in a couple days. The plants at the base are Wandering Jew, not the bulbs. There are about 20 of them, all comming up at the same time after 4 years! And some more on the other side of the house too comming up. I am so excited, wonder how long till they do this again?

Mystery lily! So named because usually folks don't even know they're there until they suddenly pop up unexpectedly and bloom. Aren't they great? We're too far north for them, but I see them in the plant catalogues and just love the colour. I also love autumn crocus -- it puts up leaves in spring, they die back, but come fall they bloom when so little is left. What a bonus.

We call those suprise lilies around here. We also have a white kind that grow wild. I'll look in my wild flower book when I find it. Sherry

Around here I think they call them Barenaked Ladies. :)

sherri, that's too funny nameing them after that group BareNaked Ladies, they do look kinda bare tho. don't they! We have always called them surprize Lilies too, I try to put them in with other periniels to cover those naked limbs of theirs! I always thought that they were such a funny flower, popping up pink like springtime, they often look out of place with the darker hues of August. Surprize Lilies, keep surprizing! TRen

Hi all! I just got back from hiking at the nature center and what did I see? I saw your flowers Cindy, blooming all over the place! I asked the naturalist about them. She said they are called Lycoris aka surprise lily, naked ladies, resurrection lily, and August lily. She also added that they are not wild flowers. The ones at the nature center were planted long ago before the land was donated by it's owners. I couldn't believe it when I got there and there they were!

This is way cool. So many names! Naked Ladies! HA HA They really do look naked. They grew up sooooo fast, and they sure are tall naked ladies. I remember they were tiny white bulbs, and once I saw the green, I knew it was "something". So glad they weren't still on the other side of the fence where the goats are now! Thanks you all.

I almost wrecked the work truck one time, when my coworker said, "hey, there's a bunch of naked ladies in that yard, and I looked in side mirror too long! (This was in Calif.)

HA HA. Should I change the thread title to 20 Naked Ladies in Kentucky! That would get some attention over on Countryside!

Yeah Cindy,do that, and give those flowers our names. Put 'Picture of Naked Ladies in KY named Cindy and Sharon, AKA "Ky devilwomen".' That should get a rise outta someone.

They are not native but are a popular old fashion flower.Majic lily is what I knew it as,but also the other names.
