apologies for an off-topic and off-Tyneside question, but has anyone any suggestions on the best place to see Sunderland Airshow (plz do not just say 'Sunderland' :) ) and whether it is better to drive down/park or go on the train?

You could try parking at the sol then walking about 10-25 mins to the coast.Or getting the train to seaburn ,come out of station turn left and follow that road all the way to the seafront, again about 15 minutes.

The council run park and ride schemes where you park and get the bus down to the coast. Probably your best bet if you're driving as you can't get parked anywhere near.

I was wondering why we had a thread about Niall Quinn for a minute there ...

I saw a fair bit of it from Cullercoats sea front a couple of years ago. It was bizarre because I didn't know it was on and heard this funny noise. I looked up and there was a ruddy Spitfire flying over me head. I didn't know whether to take cover or sue the pub for selling funny beer!

I was digging for victory in my garden and gave them a cheery wave on their way past. I was a tad concerned that they were leaving it a bit late to open the bomb-bay doors and might miss SoS altogether.

A very satisfying day. I have cut down a hedge of evergreens that the previous owner grew to keep "THEM" out. I had knocked on the doors of all the adjoining properties just to let them know first, and as I finished each section I was greeted with beaming smiles from pasty faces which hadn't seen the sun since the ruddy things were planted. Why do people bother planting the damned things? If you really want to stop your neighbours looking over the fence you simply walk around stark-bollock naked and crap in a bucket on the middle of your lawn....soon stops the curtains twitching I can tell you.

Tomorrow I start phase 2 of the hearts and minds and a return to old fashioned values campaign by holding a stret party and possibly lynching a petty criminal from a lamp post.

You should have waited till Monday Softie - you could have had a professional come round to do the job. I forgot to ask him if there are any hedges in Powburn - probably not - now.

I take it Middlesbrough will never be asked to host such an event...

Bliddy heathens!! You pobably missed the thread a bit earlier Jonno - there's a great place caaled Hedgeley just roond the corner (as spotted by Bobby). However, my contract strictly forbids me cutting any of the foliage in the garden so thi season, we can look forward to a year of mediocrity. Waddyameanwotsnew? I bet you wouldn't take the p!$$ out of Alan Shearer like that.
