Toon slap a transfer value on YKD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Several sites this morning are reporting that the Toon have slapped a £25million price tag on Dyer.

I think this is precisely the right thing to do. It calls the bluff of the sly, underhanded scrote-wipes, likes LUFC, who will seek to use their media cronies to undermine the players position with the present Club, while at the same time weakening that Club's negotiating position.

£25 million seems about right to me - whaddya reckon?

Yep, it's about twice what's he worth so 25 million should be a good deterrent. Note that NUFC.COM are putting the most negative possible spin on it...

??

5it also shows how bloody unstable the board, and m o re importan t Freddie is. How in the hell can you go out wee k af ter week an d shout that he's not for sale, then put a pr ice ta g on him ? Irregardless whether it's 5, 10, 20 or 50 mi llio n. H ow is sellin g (or even insinuating that we would sell him) one of the bes t players we have a positive thing? I keep heari ng clu bs that ar e supposedly less than us saying that t hey are "buyin g clubs" no t "selling clubs" and that they won't sell th eir best players . For us to even hint at selling YKD after al l this ti me is hip ocritical , and more t han that i t betray s the fans .

Besides that, with our ability t o attract top talent being what it is , that 25 milli on would only line fat Fredd ies pockets.

This whole bloody situation ifarce.

Sparxx - assuming it is true, of course. If it IS true, how can Leeds afford such a sum?. They spent most of their Champion's League money on Rio Ferdinand. They look like they are taking the "last piece of the jigsaw" punt we took on Shearer. There may be a player swap involved, but would we be going for so many forwards if Bridges was in our thinking?

Sparxx - don't knock the board over this. Every player has his price There is no player who is "not for sale under any circumstances". If a club offered £50m for Dyer I would hope we would snap their hands off. Club debt all but wiped out and in a much stronger position to go forward.

If the club says a player is not for sale it means they are not seeking to sell him and it is their desire to keep him. Since those announcements various tactics and newspaper rumours have attempted to destabilise this positon. FS (according to first hand accounts) is a good negotiator and with this manoevre he is calling Leeds bluff.

It is now up to Leeds to PUT UP OR SHUT UP for once and for all and let us get on with the season with Dyer a Toon player or £25m extra in club coffers.

that 25 million would only line fat Freddies pockets

A disgraceful remark - I wouldn't even expect to see such nonsense in the papers.

Exactly, Jonno. Other clubs do the same thing with players they really don't want to sell.

I think it's a fair price in the current climate. Though I think we should get at least 1 player in addition to the money.

It may be a ridiculous comment, but exactly what would we do with the money? We have been spectacularly unsuccessful so far at spending any money for anybody, so what would we do with the 25 million? Quality players apparently find the prospect of playing for the Toon something considerably less than irresistable, and surely the departure of Dyer would only make that situation worse.

Players have to be involved, Bridges and Harte and some money for ex.

-- Anonymous, July 28, 2001

Be fair here.

Take out Man U/ Arse / Chelsea where have all the real quality players gone.Top two sides and the fashionable kings road in Chelseas case

Nowhere.

Leeds have done nowt. Liverpool have added one addition - nicked from under the noses of Fulham

Newcastle have chosen the high profile expensive signings(according to the press) So far they have not come off. However noone from the midtable pack has got someone who Ive thought. Bastards. We should have got him. Neither of our local neighbours have done anything spectacular. Monkeys Heed has said on record that he has found it impossible For whatever reasons, Newcastle is not a must destination for many players and Fredie et al seem to have to work hard to attract the quality signings.

IF Robert signs he MAY give us just the balance and flair we need.I just hope we pull this one of and the lad does arrive. We need him for sure.

25 million is stupid money and imho the board have been absolutely right. IF Leeds United want him then lets see the cash up front.

As for Harte - If the deal for Robert goes through do we need another left hand side player? Robbie/Robert/Quinn. Bellamy played there for Coventry quite effectively after they signed Hartson

well then what would happen to that £25m????

-- Anonymous, July 28, 2001

If you want fast, mobile midfielders who make up for defensive frailties with great close control, then Kerr and Green will cost us nothing and would sell their kidneys for the step up rather than making their livers spongy and risking knee injuries in motel rooms.

I find it interesting that Bellamy is being played in Dyer's favoured position. 6 million is a lot to pay for a bench warmer, unless...

what would happen to that £25m????

It goes into club coffers and not into FS pockets. I got the impression you were implying something underhand. Admittedly it's not much use there although it would reduce our substantial interest payments which is more contribution than Dyer has made in the last few months. :-)

Hopefully Leeds will now back off and we can get on with a new season with a fit-again Dyer. Perhaps we can jack the price up to £35m when he starts to impress in the UEFA. :-)

What we need is a really unscrupulous player's agent to jack up the price with mysterious Italian / Spanish / Faroe Island bids. £20m would be fair. And I'd take it.

If Laurent Robert does sign, I'm really looking forward to seeing Dyer for the first time having to fight for his place in the Toon team!

This is not a forgone conclusion imho given our ability to play Solano and Robert wide and Lee, Speed Bassedas, and Acuna fighting for the other two central m/f places, and AS, CC, Ameobi, Bellamy and possibly ANO fighting for the remaining two striker places.

Could be very interesting!
