Leica Digital Camera?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I hear rumors that Leica is coming out with a Digital camera.

Does anyone have any info? I am particularly interested in the type of flash media. ie, smartmedia, compactflash or microdrive.

thanks...Linda

Linda:

Leica has marketed digital cameras for a few years. They are made for them by Fuji ( I think)in Japan and have lenses with Leica names stuck on them. Of course the prices are higher.

They also have one they advertise as being for copy and process work.

cheers

They have also have digital camera, the S2 (I think) that takes R lenses - I don't know who makes it, but someone here can probably tell us. It was in their recent system catalog anyway.

The current Leica Digilux 4.3 is indeed a Fuji name-over, that uses the Smartmedia flash chip. Good little camera...for digital snaps, that is.

They are scanner cameras, however. You can operate them in a copy stand, with a Canon FD/Hasselblad/Mamyia 645/Nikon/Olympus/Leica M/Leica R lens mounted via an adaptor, or at the back standard of a Sinar. Handholding them is simply not possible.
