"Keegan Roasts City Slackers

Kevin Keegan blew his top in an extraordinary dressing room tantrum that stunned his new Manchester City side.

The former England boss has kept a low profile at Maine Road since coming out of managerial retirement, but he went berserk at his players after a scrappy draw with his hometown club Scunthorpe this week.

The normally mild-mannered Keegan was fuming with the performance of some of his players in a 2-2 draw against the Third Division side - singling out new Australian Simon Colosimo and long-serving striker Paul Dickov for stinging criticism. Keegan blasted casual defending by Colosimo, who scored an own goal in a poor individual display, and said "he would be on the way back to Australia" if he played like that again.

Dickov was also out of touch and Keegan warned him: "Any more of that and you'll be leaving too.'

Keegan is slowly realising the size of his task at Maine Road and he has little money to strengthen the squad - unless he sells first.

His normally happy demeanour has been replaced by an extended huff and he will not talk to the Press at the moment, but will offer no reasons for giving them the silent treatment.

When he signed Eyal Berkovic from Celtic he posed for pictures but then ducked questions on his new £1.5million signing. The Scunthorpe tantrum came as a shock to the players who had enjoyed Keegan's training methods which have concentrated on ball work.

Some have even asked for extra physical work at the end of the sessions because they feel guilty about enjoying themselves."

Just love it. Presumably there are some things happening which "weren't in the brochure". How long before he says "I'm not a quitter".

Alan - I'll never knock anything he did for us. However, he does seem to have a character weakness and a very marked tendency to hoy his toys oot the pram. I wish him well at Man City and I'd certainly welcome him back if the situation ever arose - which I think is very unlikely.
