AC Problems

If your air conditioning system is on the blink, take a few minutes to check a few things before calling for repair. If it is not running at all, first check the thermostat -- the setting may have been changed. Next check for power. There will be a breaker or fuse for the AC equipment. There is also a disconnect device mounted near the outside unit (compressor); check it too.

If the outside unit runs but you have little or no cool air, check the filter and the blower. A clogged filter will not let air pass and a malfunctioning blower will not move air at all.

If you have areas in the house that get too cool, you may need to balance the ductwork. Cool air acts differently from warm air and the same duct settings may not work for both heating and cooling.
