35 Summilux Asph Aperture

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I recently bought an M6HM and today added a 35/1.4 asph. Since I'm new to Leica I have a question regarding the lens. With the aperture set at 1.4 (in the detent) I can still see a very small rim of the aperture blades. To make them totally disappear I can turn the aperture ring slightly beyond 1.4 . Is this normal behaviour for the 35/1.4 asph ? Thanks for any info.

Yes it is completely normal. The aperture indents are clibrated at the factory and it is not at all unusual for them to show up slightly wide open.

"Clibrated" is what you are after sampling all these Leica owners' single malts...8^)

Don't panic, I have the 50mm f2, the 35 ASP f1.4 & the 21 mm 2.8 ASPH and the apperture ring still show at the maximum apperture... Everything is NORMAL !!!
