A year ago, PeopleSoft was a challenged company with Y2K, software architecture and management problems, Upin said. The company's Web-enabled PeopleSoft 8 software that has been driving recent license revenue growth, wasn't released until September 2000.

PeopleSoft's weak results in the first half of 2000 have made it easier for the company to post year-over-year gains, analysts said.
