Hiring additional staff

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

I would like some input from any of you who have hired additional staff in the past. When do you know when to hire? Who do you hire? And probably what I am most interesed in is (since I believe we have figured the other out), how do you finance an associate?

I believe our people are ready to hire, we have a need and people seem to want to see someone hired. Most of the leadership is ready to hire. The problem I see is, we are barely meeting budget now and we have just did some renovation on the church.

In order to do the renovation we asked for commitments and easily raised about $40,000 in a one time offering. However, I question whether the people will want to make this commitment again and whether they will want to commit for more than a year if neccesary.

I have heard of other churches starting a fund and when they raise half of the salary, they hire. Others have did commintment cards?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Marc.....

Are you relatively close to a Bible college where hiring someone "part time" is a possibility??

Also....what are you talking here....youth?? Family?? Worship??

Need a little more info.

Thanks!

We are almost 3 hours from a Bible College... part-time may be possible... however, it may be difficult.

We would be looking for someone to mainly work with youth... however, worship experience or talent would be very helpful.

Also we are currently seeking someone as a part-time secretary/administrative assistant to help lighten my load... some feel we should just hire an assitant minister and forget the secretary... I have mixed feelings.

We are located in Dassel, Minnesota which is about 60 miles west of the Twin Cities and 150 miles NorthWest of Rochester (home of Minnesota Bible College).
