Too many serious errors and assumptions (IMO) in the article for this guy to be considered an "expert".

Walter Bortz, MD, This guy is full of carbs- beans that is. This is the typical AMA jargon and it will keep you going back to the doctors. If one would investigate outside of the main line by some of the more intelligent workers in this field, they would find that just the oppisite is true Find out what our ancestors lived on for 10,000 years, which indicates what our proper diet would be.

Oh dear. I read what he says about diabetes: ". . .the answer to [Type 2 diabetes] is exercise and weight loss."

No, they are not the answer in many cases, only in some. He also says that both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes "result from the destruction of the pancreas' ability to make insulin." The American Diabetes Association says "The cause of diabetes is a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles." That is, environmental factors seem to be triggers, not the cause. Type 2 results because ". . . either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin."

There's more but these basic errors destroy the credibility of anything else in the article.
