San Jacinto outage hits 2,000 customers

A malfunctioning underground system blacked out 1,979 homes and businesses in San Jacinto on Sunday night and also interrupted water service.

San Jacinto police dispatcher Yvette Reinbolt said calls began jamming the switchboard at about 9:23 p.m. when the lights went out.

Southern California Edison spokeswoman Clara Potes-Fellow said power to much of the affected area was restored at about 9:50 p.m.

Water service was affected because electricity powers the water pumps.
