Would it work here ?

I think it's Portugal where, instead of speed cameras, they use speed activated traffic lights. If somebody exceeds the speed limit, a detector triggers a traffic light to red, so the tear arses shouldn't ever be able to reach takeoff speed.

Means the roads are lined with traffic lights every however many hundred yards (oops, metres), but it seems to me like it could be an effective way to hold speed in check.

So what would we make of it ?

It'd have an adverse effect on you being able to reach the toilet in time....

I'm not speaking to you Herron. You got me to that club on false pretences on Saturday. Or was that part of the plan - send me there while you had a quickie in the Stawberry ? :-))

My driving seat's been modified, I'll have you know. The disposal system has saved us a fortune in fuel costs - much more effective than chicken sh1t and barn yard slurry. :-))

And that's another thread hijacked.

SO the masses would suffer at the redlights due to the behaviour of the few? Probably not, 'cos every bu99er goes faster than the limit. What p!$$es me off so much is the to$$ers *trademark Clarky) who dawdle along instead of getting on with it. Came across some interesting signs on an urbam highway in Minneapolis yesterday - Maximum speed 60mph Minimum speed 40mph. It worked (well, in part) - everybody was doing 75!!

We should try what they have in Austria. There are sensors in the road and if a car is going 30% more than the speed limit, "Stingers" are automatically activated that puncture the tyres of the offending car.

and the radar detectors that take a piccie of ya speedin and send it to ya in the post with a court date/fine on it.

Aye, they have those cameras here. i got a picture of me speeding so I sent them a picture of sixty bucks. They saw the humour but I still had to pay the fine.

I think there should be a variable speed limit. If someone is overtaking you in a flashy Porsche 911 they should be pinned by the coppers and taken to the cleaners. However, should you be pleasantly cruising along, say for no particular reason at 94mph, there should only be a nod and a salute by the local enforcing constabulary.

I really object to hidden speed cameras, and overuse of speed bumps on the road. Besides, I reckon more people are killed / injured / accidents caused by stupid driving than excessive speed. Maximum engine size for new drivers (like with motorcycles) will help, as well as formal re-assessment every 8-10 years.
