Psychics Burn Up The Hotline to Chandra

WASHINGTON - Chandra Levy says she was murdered and can finger her killer — or so says medium Lysa Mateu, who claims to talk to Levy every day.

The Long Island woman, who has turned "channeling spirits" into a big business in California, insists the missing intern's ghost has told her everything: how she was killed, who did it and why.

"It's not me making this up," Mateu said. "I know for a fact that I can lead police to her."

Cops are unlikely to listen. The Levy mystery has brought seers, soothsayers and clairvoyants out of the woodwork in record numbers. Police are swamped by hot tips from the beyond — all conflicting.

Some so-called psychics mean well and truly think they can help. Others are hucksters, hoping to prey on the Levys' pain for financial gain or a few minutes on TV.

While many psychics claim to have helped solve crimes, police can't point to any cases in which they have helped.

"I have never, in 25 years as an FBI agent, ever worked a case with a psychic who gave us information of value," said former agent Clint Van Zandt. "And I've never heard of such a case."

An appropriately unscientific survey of various visions phoned in to the Daily News or posted on the Internet finds that Levy is definitely and certainly — pretty much everywhere.

She's in a shallow grave near a bridge in Washington's Rock Creek Park; "somewhere" in South Dakota; in Frederick, Md.; in a heart-shaped body of water near the Pentagon, and in a ditch in Charles County, Md.

Desperate, Robert and Susan Levy have consulted a few psychics. One, who was given some of their daughter's clothing, told them she was buried in woods in Fairfax, Va. — then sold the story to a supermarket tabloid. Another said the former intern is alive, trapped in a bad Brooklyn neighborhood, according to a family friend.

Last month, Robert Levy was booked on a Fox News show the same night as psychic Rosemary Altea. But after speaking to Altea just before airtime, the distraught father abruptly canceled his appearance.

Altea, who claims to speak with the dead, went back on Fox News to complain that the Levys won't return her calls. "If she were not alive, I would certainly be able to speak with her," Altea said. "I've not yet been given the opportunity to try, and that's a great shame."

Sylvia Browne, who does psychic readings over the phone for $700 a pop, has been on TV proclaiming that Levy is in a marsh in Rock Creek Park.

Long Island psychic Helen Churchwell Ligoti called The News last month to predict that Levy would be found between July 2 and 21 — "either then, or not until February." Ligoti said she had a vision of Levy being involved with a man with the initials R.G. who dumped her in the Capitol's Tidal Basin.

Meanwhile, Mateu has mailed police a tape of her conversations with Levy's apparition, detailing how her lover, Rep. Gary Condit, sent someone with an Italian name, a mustache and dark hair to "keep her quiet" — and how it went out of control. "She was strangled. It was an accident — she says that over and over," Mateu said.

She said the body was buried and then dug up. "The first thing she told me is she was moved. She tells me there's things around this area which would show she had been there, hairs or something," Mateu said.

Asked why Levy's ghost would pick Mateu out of the oracular crowd, she said: "She'll use whatever medium will actually deliver the message."

Supernaturally sensing skepticism, she added: "Let's forget about belief. Let's just check out what I got."

Answers

It's very unfortunate that so many fraudulent "psychics" come out of the woodwork over something like this. But it's also to be expected since major media attention is one thing the phonies want. The best psychics never go after something in this way. They wait until asked. I think SAR will confirm that for me.

One of the items in the above posting shows how the public is mislead by the authorities about use of psychics. The FBI agent who made the statement that he has *never* seen evidence of true psychic ability in his 25 years is either a classic debunker/denial/misinformer, or he has had his head up his you-know-where, and his statement just gives the FBI a bad name. The FBI made profiling into a special department, and part of good profiling involves some psychic skills. Intuition, for instance, is a low level psychic talent.

Most of us who follow such things have seen many video taped presentations of police officers/detectives/chiefs who might shake their head, but then admit that some psychic led them right to the spot where the body was. There *are* some legitimate psychics out there.

Gordon, you said that very well. and yes, a close friend of mine asked me about Chandra....I have not answered her because I have been too busy to stop my daily life and tune in..I don't mean to sound like it is nothing important...it IS important if I could say "ok, yada yada yada...and she is right here. It does NOT work like that...and any psychic that says it does, or they can do it at will is full of CRAP! there are times when I am given MUCH too MUCH..more than I want to know...it has taken many yrs...but I have learned, sometimes I am given things I can't change, or even help with..I cry out "WHY, LORD" why do I have to know this, why do you give this to me if I CAN"T HELP?" I have come to realize I may be given something just to show me I am "picking up " correctly...because He is getting me ready to hit me with a "BIG" something, ,,,and by doing it this way, He has my attention, and I am more apt to follow the prompts he gives me.

I hate to go on record about her..I am not out to toot the horn....in order for me to "tune in" I do have to prayer, and shut out this level of being and elevate my awareness,,,a psychic is not in the receptive mode always!

Oh, and I think the word Psychic gets a bad rap, so I say I have the "gift" or that I am a sensitive. and I DO NOT TELL FORTUNES!!!! arrrrrg!!! that for people that won't take control and responcibilty for their own life....but I don't want to go there.!!!!

anyway, unless you are intuative, or are close with a sensitve, it will sound so ominus to you how a true sensitves "work"

I am asked "what do you do??" no I don't read tarot cards.....but I do what ever I am prompted to do....I sometimes can look at you and I have a movie screen on your forehead....I literally SEE a small screen and will see something about your life. now..I don't invade your privacy, I am not here to judge....if I am given something and I think you want to hear, I ask you if you want to hear something that came to me! if it is bad, I ask Christ through Holy Spirit.."Am I to tell this"

there are some things, I JUST DON'T share....untill they know me and that I am not a "nut".

here's the tricky part.....yes...I SEE DEAD PEOPLE....I HEAR there thoughts in my mind. I do not "call up the dead" if they come to me and have a message, I will share this with you. I could type all night, but this is probably MORE that you wanted to know...sorry for rambling....

oh, one last thing...I believe in the LORD JESUS CHRIST...I believe it is HIS will I have this gift...I am now at a point if YOU have a problem with this..it is YOUR problem.... before I'd hide this fact...but now I guess I feel, I will no longer question why I have the gift...but promised to God, I would do all I could to be worthy to be His servant.
