EOS30 and Centon flash incompatability

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have just upgraded from a EOS300 to an EOS30 (Elan7 in US). I have a non-Canon flash which has worked fine with the EOS300, it's a Centon FG105D, as sold by Jessops in the UK. On the EOS30 body however the auto-zoom function does not work, and I'm not sure if the TTL metering works (I have yet to get the film processed). Anyone else had these problems?. The assistant in Jessops has tried the same combination of Body / Flash and found the same problem - so it's not my kit!.

Looks like the problem I had with Metz MB 40 MZ3i. This flash worked fine with EOS 5 and 500n, but not with the 30. I had to replace the SCA adapter for a newer model, this workes with EOS 5, 500n and 30. I hope you can get your Centon working.

Just to confirm, I have had a call back from Jessops technical centre who confirm (after trials today!) that the Centon FG105D flash is not compatible with the EOS30 body. The problem is being reported to the manufacturers for resolution, but I'm not sure where that leaves us with the older spec units!. However Jessops are offering to sell me a second hand Canon flash at trade price, as a gesture of goodwill. I'll probably take them up on this and maybe get the FG105D updated at a later date. FYI, Jessops in the UK do give good customer service, especially for a high-street store.
