Enviromental Pollution in Your Area

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

We all can't live in a pristine area.... but this map can tell you what your contaminates are in your area.... just enter your zip code and it tells you everything from lead hazards, potential sources of land contamination, animal waste from factory farms, chemcial releases from industrial facilities, clean water status, and watershed indicators I ran my area... and it even listed the pollutors in our county... I was shocked who some of them were... and basically ... I don't live in a clean area

I think the thing that is really scary are the truck drivers that would open the valve and drive around country roads until their trucks were empty.

Gee, the place my son works at is the number one dumper of toxic pollutents. It listed all the major factories in E-Town. Wow. I didn't know that website was there. The wind comes from the west up here and blows over my hill and then into E-Town. Seems folks on the east side of E-Town would get most of it. I was suprised at the numbers.

I thought we were probably OK, but apparently not. YUK!!! But thanks for the site because you can't do anything about it unless you're aware of a problem.

How about the two most polluted cities in the US trying to get bids for the Olympics? LA and Houston. Doesn't anybody besides me have a problem that athletes, who eat right, train and make huge sacrifices are then made to compete in this contamination! Vicki

The aluminum smelter just a bit upwind from us shut down due to the electric rate escalation (yay). We are enjoying breathing deeply, hanging clothes out on the line and bringing them in smelling better than before we washed them and our most outstanding garden to date. Great site Yarrow, I wonder how much time one would have to spend in order to find a reasonably clean area.
