Girl Attacked by River Otters in Shasta Lake

By KPIX - Roger Hamlyn

A teenager from the San Joaquin Valley is recovering from an attack by five river otters.

17-year-old Erin Vanduzen was floating on an air mattress on Shasta Lake when the attack started. Park officials say one actually climbed on to her back while the others bit her underwater.

"She had just been bitten around the arms, the legs, the back of the head and neck. Just puncture wounds was all you could see," said Vinny Villano of Packers Bay Marina. "She was pretty torn up."

In all, Vanduzen suffered more than 30 puncture wounds and had to have more than 40 stitches, as well as rabies shots.

This is the third reported attack by otters on people in recent weeks at Shasta Lake. But this attack was especially severe, wildlife officials said. They think that the otters may have been trying to protect their den or their young.

Are otters subject to rabies?

LN:

River otters aren't subject to much. Fortunately, they haven't found my ponds. Of course they cause much less damage than beavers.

You will need to go to a vet school lib. to read the references supplied in the reference section.

I am not a home or I could find more.

Best wishes,,,,

Z,

Didn't you say you weren't going to post anymore after you threw your last tantrum?

But otters are soooo cute.

Ok:

No I didn't say that, but I am in Europe at the moment using someone elses time. It costs here. If you are talking for the board, I won't post here anymore. I have no idea who you are. You could be some subhuman from the Dennis board or another high school kid with a sub 100 IQ. Hard to tell the difference.

Best Wishes,,,,

Best Wishes,,,,

I speak for the bored, and we want you to quit posting here.

>>>But otters are soooo cute.

Actually, it's the sea otters which are unbearably cute. River otters look more like rats which live in the water.

Do you speak for the trees, too, Mr. Board-Lorax?
