"Yes , a fully fit Shearer that is , and wide men who can hit the line."

what's the point of the 4 year search for "wide men that can hit the line" Shearer had our best wide men for years when he arrived but didn't get on with them (Ginola & Gillespie) so were forced out. What's the point of continually hoping for an old fashioned kick & run winger to hit a centre forward who realy only has two seasons left in him?

Dave, did I say winger, !!! difference between wide men and wingers, I am talking about players who have the technical ability and the confidence to go wide, receive wide , hit the line and cross , the French Left Back comes to mind eh!, bet you cannot name many out and out wingers in the EPL,!!, Shearer got the crap for playing with his back to goal , he mastered it to a degree but was less effective for it due to other players unable to get down the line , square it back never changed from Schooldays and still a rich vein of goals .

Aye - there's the rub. I hope he comes back as good as he can be but he has been hurt badly over many years. The powers of recovery fade in a 30-y-o plus body (so I am told).

We shall soon see - I hope he can still do a substantial job for us - if he can't I hope the management can remember that the club is much bigger than any player.

Er, yes.

If Shearer was as fit as he was during Bobby's first season, then it would be hard to leave him out: our lack of experience at the front was an issue on Saturday night.

Shearer would certainly be first choice in my team, unfortunately he would not be Captain. Then he could concentrate on doing what he does best, bursting the old onion bag at the far end of the pitch.

Ditto what PiC said, except I'd add in the 'fully fit' part. :-)
